1.0 Introduction

This design note pertains to the Design of Elastomeric Bearing for RCC cast in situ type Superstructure
of 11.2m and 13.2 m Span.
The Design of Elastomeric Bearing is based on Ultimate Limit State (ULS) Method as specified in
IRC : 83 (Part II) : 2015 .

Following loads are considered in the design of the bearing:


(i) Dead Loads
(ii) Super Imposed Dead Loads
(iii) Live Loads
(iv) Associated Live Loads
- Braking Forces
- Bearing Friction Forces
- Centrifugal Forces
(v) Wind Loads
- Wind Load on Superstructure (without considering Wind load on Live loads)
- Wind Load on Superstructure (considering Wind load on live Loads)

The bearings are designed for the maximum design forces as per IRC : 6 : 2017. A separate system of
Seismic Arrester control in both directions are introduced to cater for seismic forces on the bearings as
per Cl. 219.9 (iii), IRC : 6 : 2017.
