The cap is provided with nominal reinforcement of 0.2% steel distributed equally at top and bottom and provided in two
directions both at top and bottom. The reinforcement along the shorter side is in the form of hoops, extending for full width
of the cap. The reinforcement along the length of the cap should extend from end to end of the cap.

The cap is provided with nominal reinforcement of 0.2% steel distributed equally at top and bottom and provided in two directions both at top
and bottom. The reinforcement along the shorter side is in the form of hoops, extending for full width of the cap. The reinforcement along the
length of the cap should extend from end to end of the cap.

i) Pressure at Base of Stem
(Note :-The height h for action of pressure is considered as stem height only)
Earth Pressure at Return Wall Base Ka γ h
= 0.251 x 1 x 1.2 = 0.301 T / m2
h = 1.500
h3 = 1/3 cotΦ × tanα × h
cotΦ = 1.428
tanα = 0.500
h3 = 0.357
Earth Pressure due to sloping surcharge Ka ϒ h h3 = 0.000 T
Hence
surcharge pressure does not act on Return wall, thus surcharge pressure need not be calculated
