SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

FOURTH GRADE
LIGHT INTENSITY

Have you noticed that a light source appears to be brighter when you are close to it and dimmer
when you are farther away?

1. Observe and ask questions

Problem statement: How does light intensity depend on the distance from a light source?

2. PREDICTION (wild guess)

3.
I think that if the source of light is near the light going to be
when is near and when the source of light is far away the light is dimmer.

4. PLAN THE EXPERIMENT. (Follow the intructions from the video)

4.1. Materials
- Source of light
- Light sensor
- Ruler

4.2. Method:
The intensity of light was measured, using the same light source and light
sensor. The distance between a source and sensor was changed.

5. CONDUCT THE EXPERIMENT

- FAIRNESS: Is this a fair test? Write at least 2 reasons to explain your answer

a. ._
That te source of light is the same____________________________________________
__________

b. ___That are the same light sensor.___________________________________________
__________

6. COLLECT DATA (this part was done for you, DON’T change the data!)

Light intensity (lux) Distance (cm)

3400 10
1800 15
800 20
600 25
400 30
300 35
100 40

7. ANALYZE:
- RELIABILITY: Is this experimental design reliable? Explain

Yes because I use the same condition ,exsep the distans.

8. COMMUNICATE RESULTS

a. Build a LINE graph

Distance (cm)
45
40

9. CONCLUSIONS

 How does light intensity depend on the distance from light source?

The distance depends a lot for the intensity of light, I know because whit 10 cm we get 3,400 and
whit 40 cm 100 lux

 Was your prediction correct?

My prediction is correct because I said that the intensity going to affect.
