ABSTRACT:
Increasing the operational frequency is the most common solution
to achieve higher power densities. This work proposes a design and
optimization methodology of a high power high frequency
transformer accounting for the tuned leakage inductance of the
transformer, as well as high isolation requirements, particularly in
power electronics circuit application. In spite of having several
models we can use and develop a model, is so called pseudo-
empirical expression derived from a rigorous regression algorithm
based on an extensive 2D finite element simulation scenario. High-
Frequency Power Transformer , demonstrates how high frequency
switching can be used to increase the power handling capability of
power transformers. This type of power transformer is commonly
used to perform dc-to-dc conversion in switched-mode power
supply.
Introduction:
A transformer is a static device that couples two circuits for the
purpose of transferring alternating current from one circuit to
another by electromagnetic induction. A high frequency power
transformer commonly used to implement switched-mode power
supplies in a large variety of small electrical equipment, such as
digital television sets, home entertainment systems, desktop
computers, computer peripherals, etc, and in insulated dc-to-dc
converters such as those found in many grid-tied inverters powered
by solar panels or wind turbines.

Objectives/Hypothesis:

1. To know about high frequency power transformers in switched

mode power supplies and insulated dc to dc converters.
2. Power efficiency of switched mode power supplies and insulated
DC to DC converters.
3. Topologies of switched mode power supplies and insulated DC to
DC converters.
4. Insulated DC to DC converter implemented using a push –pull
converter.
5. When we will complete this thesis we will be familiar with the
operation of high frequency transformer for power electronics
devices.

Methods:
1. For designing of a high frequency transformer we will use
pseudo-empirical expression or any other method which will be
advised by our supervisor .
2. As we completed our ELECTRICAL MACHINE lab and also we
completed our power system courses we have some important
ideas about transformer which will be helpful for us to complete
this thesis.
Page 3/1
Expected Result:
We want to design a high frequency transformer for power
electronics devices and our main goal is to improve the efficiency of
the transformer by reducing the losses. We will try our best to get
desired result as much as possible.
