RESULTS
4.0 INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents findings of the study carried out in Loikas area, Samburu County, the
chapter address on the following sub-heading:
 Socio-demographic information
 Childcare and feeding practices
 Anthropometric information

4.1 SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION;


4.1.1Age of the caregivers
The ages of the caregivers were categorized in the table below;

The tableshows that majority of the caregivers fell under the 30-34 age category with 66.4%.

The study involved 146 children out of the 288 of the sample size, the mean ages of the sampled
children were found to be 54 Months. The majority of the children fall on the category of 42 – 53
months with 26.8%. Despite the fact that there were more girls than boys in the sample, the
overall sex ratio was 0.8 which is within the recommended range of 0.8 – 1.2 20 demonstrating an
unbiased sample as a whole. The age and sex distribution of the study group is shown below:

4.1.4 Marital status
The sample found that majority of the caregivers were married with 62% and this figure almost
doubled those of the single parents which comprised of divorced and widowed.

4.1.5Education level of the caregivers


It was found that majority of the caregivers’ attained primary education with 71%, and the
population who reached tertiary level of education was the least in population with only 4.2%.
