Due: December 4, 2020

Problem 1.
Derive an equation for horizontal, radial flow of an incompressible liquid from a
general radius r to the radius of the wellbore, r = r w, List the assumptions made. Graph
the pressure at a general radius r, as a function of radius (r = 0.1 to 1000 m). For
𝑞𝜇
graphing purposes; assume =5 atmospheres and the flowing pressure at the
2𝜋𝑘ℎ
wellbore is 50 atmospheres. , What do you conclude from your graph?

Problem 2.
Calculate real gas pseudopressure at a pressure of 1902.7 psia using the
following data and a base pressure of 102.7 psia. Was the calculation of real
gas pseudopressure necessary for this gas? Explain your answer
p (psia) z µg (cp)
1902.7 0.87155 0.0164
1602.7 0.88030 0.0153

102.7 0.98987 0.0120

Problem 3.
Find the required constant and its units to convert the Darcy equation for linear,
horizontal flow to the following unit system (q, k, L, A, ∆𝑝, µ): liters per minute,
millidarcy, centimeters, centimeters squared, dynes/square centimeter, and
centipoise.
Problem 4.
Consider the radial flow problem show in top view at right. Assume there are three
layers and the permeability of the undamaged formation is 50 md in layers 1 & 3 and
5 md in layer 2. Further assume that the radius of damage is 2.5 ft, the permeability
of the damaged zone (shaded area) is 1 md in all three layers, and the thickness of the
layers are 10, 1, and 10 ft, respectively.

(a) What is the average permeability in each layer if rw = 0.5 ft and re= 500 ft?

(b) What is the average permeability of the three layers?

Problem 5.
Given the following flow data on a cylindrical core:
Length = 0.730 inches Diameter = 0.725 inches
Patm = 1.0 atm Psc=1.0 atm
µAir = 0.020 cp Tsc = 15 °C
