PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID TRAINING OF TEACHERS AND PARENT
OFFICERS SY 2020-2021

I. INTRODUCTION
“Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own
abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to
make a contribution to his or her community.”(WHO,2021) Also, Mental health refers to
cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. It is all about how people think, feel, and
behave. People sometimes use the term “mental health” to mean the absence of a mental
disorder.

On the other hand PFA was first coined in the 1940s but its use has increased in modern-
day crisis events, immediately after a crisis event, those who assist are often family
members, neighbors, teachers, community members and first responders of various kinds
(emergency medical teams, police, firefighters). PFA is important, first-line psychosocial
support for people affected by crisis events. PFA, like medical “first aid”

In this regard, Mental health problems are an extremely important issue worldwide due to
their impact on the human rights and quality of life of those affected and their families
One of the major challenges people are Crisis events – both large-scale and individual
occur in every community in the world. Large-scale events include natural disasters, war
and terrorist attacks, disease outbreaks, large-scale displacement of people and
communities, Individual events affect one or a few people, such as accidents, robbery,
assault and of coarse the COVID 19 pandemic.
They have physical, social and emotional consequences for those affected

Mental health Awareness is a form of education.  The more you know, the more power
you have.  Knowledge is power.  This power can cause a positive effect in our
community.  Awareness is key for understanding what mental health is and how families
can receive the help they need. Public knowledge is important in accessing community
resources.  Lack of awareness of mental health is not just “their” problem, it is our
problem as a community. Mental health awareness should not only be for a day or two or
even a month.  We must be informed about it because it can easily happen to someone
close to us.  Community awareness for mental health reduces stigma. Mental health
awareness increases the chances for early intervention, which can result in a fast
recovery.  Awareness reduces negative adjectives that have been set to describe our
people with a metal illness and Psychological First Aid is one of our way to help such
Problems.

At the same time, educators and parents should be Attend mental health fairs,
Psychological First Aid, resource fairs, read more, listen to it. Understand the ways and
steps on how to performs PFA ( Psychological First Aid) so that they can perform it
together with their family, relatives and friendsn.  And overall pass it on.  And together
start a domino effect for awareness on mental health and on how to perform PFA. Not
scared to talk about it, It’s hard work, but the power to reach and teach the community is
well worth it. They should understand that each and everyone in the community is
suffering from different mental illness and different way of coping mechanism such
illness and maybe they can help on those situations.
