50 Years from Now

“I have observed that the prosperity or misery of each people is in direct proportion to its
liberties or its prejudices and, accordingly, to the sacrifices or the selfishness of its
forefathers.” During the next 50 years, life as we know it will change dramatically. As
technology progresses, our lives will be significantly changed. However, there are also
drawbacks to this development. In 50 years (2071), I imagine the Philippines as a highly
developed country with a technology-driven economy and a labor force that consists of
machines rather than humans, leading to an economy that is expected to rise at least 6%
each year. As a result, Filipinos would have a tough time seeking jobs to meet their basic
needs. According to HDI, Filipinos will presumably enjoy a very high standard of life in this
advanced economy. Of course, this scenario for the year 2071 can only be true if the
Philippines undertakes massive changes to improve the efficiency of government and
reduce corruption in our infamously poor governance structure. Filipinos must abandon their
present patronage and family loyalties in favor of a meritocracy similar to Singapore.
Economic reforms are also important, such as continued infrastructure spending to make
transportation easier, easing the process of establishing businesses and encouraging
people to start their own businesses in all fields, lowering investment barriers (especially
foreign), strengthening and prioritizing our manufacturing, creative, and technology sectors,
and making our agricultural sector more competitive. There is also a need for cultural
reform, perhaps even revolution, among Filipinos, such as the removal of our laid-back
attitude toward life, the limitation of the influence of Catholicism and Islam on our attitude
toward modern thinking, more willingness to take risks rather than being afraid to do so,
value secular education, value intellectualism, and be willing to help those who are in need.
But only if the Philippines is willing to make those social and administrative reforms, as well
as sustain its economic success by economic reform and consolidation, can I be sure that
the Philippines will be a developed nation in 2071. With all of these development lies on the
hand of the youth today and the future generation. All of these changes and development
will become possible if the youth today will know how to use its wisdom and knowledge in a
proper way resulting to a better and good nation. Thus, the adults today should teach the
youth the value of becoming a good and effective leader who have the resolve to do the
right things. The adult should be a role model to the youth and they are the one to start the
change for the youth to change also. As we go back, the great turning points in our history
that have helped us to gain national salvation and change have been made possible by the
Filipino people's concerted efforts – even through our leaders' worst efforts. But it will be
best if the leaders will start it since they have the power to influence others. If the Filipino
people have the sense of loyalty, willpower, and experience make a change to reform and
saved our country from its darkest moments. Our country then will have the social and
economic momentum to go from prosperity to success, and to genuinely make waves in our
archipelago, throughout the international world, and throughout the massive, immeasurable
ocean of history, because they have public servants in government completely dedicated to
harnessing their influence for good – for the betterment of the people. This 2021 and
previous years, the Philippines are experiencing a lot of social and economic problems due
to the threats brought by the unprecedented pandemic that was started in the City of
Wuhan, in mainland China, and still continuously spreading all over the world. The threats
that the virus brought to the entire human race in different nations, the fast-spreading virus
that causing damages across the world, and the foci of all is how this world heal, surpass all
the challenges, struggles, and obstacles, find and invent the cure for the killer virus that
gradually killing and destroying the entire human race live in this world, it uneasy and
questionable, as of now, to foresee what would be possibly happen and the occurrence in
the future and what would be the face of the Philippines in the next five decades from now
on. Predictions are still subjective and could be something non-factual or the basis is not
enough and cannot be objectified. In mere facts, the future remains uncertain for us people
and something that is for sure is the future could be or results positive or negative. Way
back after World War, being colonized by other nations, and being devastated and
damaged because of the result of the occurrence before, the Philippines still rise from the
downfall, and yet, economic ascent. In that way, though the Philippines experienced too
many challenges before, the country revived from the miserable happenings. However, it
might be hard for the people of the Philippines to step up, motivate, and move forward to
achieve their objectives to fight for the future generation, they achieved it anyway. In large
settings, it simply means that though the past was miserable it still not the thing that would
affect the present and future but the things that can motivate and be part of the success and
liberty that the future and present have. Thus, it would never be the things that could
destroy the future. As of today, the Philippines' medical sector has been challenged
because of the increasing and rising causes of the Corona Virus Disease of 2019 or also
known as COVID-19 brought into the country. During the shocking fast-rising of the cases of
COVID-19 in the country, the medical front liners, and health-allies, have been culture
shocked due to the non-stop needs for emergency response in all hospitals. In this matter,
the Philippine Government, specifically the executive branch of the government signed the
"Doktor Para Sa Bayan Act" that studying Medicine in the country will be for free and those
who will be received a scholarship would also have other benefits, and this scholarship is
exclusively for the deserving Filipino citizen only. Through the help of the law would
encourage graduates of pre-medicine and other courses to pursue to study medicine and
undergo training in the medical field. After decades, I foresee that the Philippines' Medical
Sector would be more ready for the upcoming and unexpected unprecedented events. The
health-allies of the country will also be more efficient and effective and can level to the skills
and knowledge have of the topnotch country in the medical field. Moreover, even though the
medical allies were already global competitive in medical field, throughout the years that the
education needed to attain Doctor in Medicine title for free, many aspiring students would be
encouraging to achieve their goals. Also, fifty years for now many global competitive health-
allies will be produce. In terms of technology, in these days the field of Information and
Technology is continuously developing and improving. Developers and Researchers do not
stop in improving and doing innovation to fix and added new features that would help all
people to make works easier. In present days, the existence of the technology is powerful,
so how it would be more like after five decades? In this generation, many students are
taking up Information and Technology-related courses in the tertiary education, as their
chosen future career so in terms and status of the technology in the Philippines, it possibly
that the field of research and technology would be more reliable, attainable, well-executed,
powerful, and timely in the country. It is reliable in way of being well-developed and all
information online is easier to access and easier to cite for research and academic
purposes. Also, it is reliable because I think in that year, information is written legibly by the
authors. The needed information and other matters are attainable in way of easy access to
certain browsers in the internet. The information and technology are well- executed because
it is not impossible that the entire field is powerful because of the skills and talents of the
programmers, developers, researchers, innovators, and other enthusiasts in the said field.
And lastly, it is timely for the reason of that the information access is easier and our own
produced information and technology- related enthusiasts in the field is also globally
competitive same as what I foresee in the medical sector of the Philippines. Thus, through
the contribution of the entire field of Information Technology in the Philippines, it will help the
entire country to be known across the world. In the previous year up to this current year, the
education has been challenged by the time because of the effect of pandemic in our society.
Even the Department of Education and Commission of Higher Education having hard time
in implementing type of education that will be followed by the schools under. Since the
students having hard time too because of the type of education and because of others
barriers, in this time, online learning is still not applicable as of today. But I think that the
education after five decades is more accessible by all-type of people, in terms of socio-
economics, and type of education is organized and arranged including other
implementations. I also foresee that in the next five decades, the institutions that is
accountable for education would rely and accept the ideas of online learning specially for
pre-school up to grade school to avoid being crowded inside schools. The thing that comes
to my mind is, since I foresee that the information, computing, and technology is upgraded
and well-developed, online-learning will be applicable and realistic. In the end, the future is
still remained uncertain for all of us and the only thing that is certain is the future will come
no matter what happen. Also, the thing that would matter and important is how we will deal
in life with uncertainty. I see myself will happen to the Philippines 50 years from now. I can
see that there’s a lot will change and will happened 50 years from now. If the Filipino people
maintain thesame apathy and ambivalence that have plague them for centuries, the
answer will be, Nothing. ThePhilippines will remain the same in the next 40- 50 years.
Just look at the news clippings from 40 to50 years ago even before WW2, replace the
names and the dates and you will still see the same issuesbeing repeated over and
over again from then till today.
