ii) In biphase baseband signalling, binary symbol 1 is represented by the doublet pulse s(t) of
duration Tb and binary symbol 0 is represented by the negative of this pulse. Derive the power

3 a) Digital data is to be transmitted through a channel with No=10 -8 W/Hz. The channel 10
bandwidth of 1 MHz is considering for antipodal signaling scheme and binary
frequency signalling scheme. (Hint: Error function table to be permitted).
a. What is the data rate that can be supported by the channel?
b. Find the received signal power required to give P e = 10-6 at the data rate found in
part (a).

3 b) i) Derive an expression for the probability of error Pe (1) for coherent binary 5+5
ASK system.

ii) Binary data are transmitted at a rate of bit per second over a
microwave link. Assuming channel noise is AWGN with zero mean and
power spectral density at the receiver input is Watts per Hz, find the

for coherent binary frequency signalling scheme, where the two
possible transmitted signals are orthogonal to each other. Determine the
minimum channel bandwidth required. (Hint: Error function table to be
permitted).
