THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

“Money is like manure: if you don't spread it around, nothing

grows.” Let’s face it , there’s nothing more wasteful than a waste.

Ever since, we are taught by our parents that craps and wastes

are worthless and are not beneficial. Aside from its foul odor,

improper sanitation and disposal can cause various diseases.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

This study determined the quality of the calamansi extract, onion,

and garlic as cockroach repellent at the Patronage of Mary

Development School during the school year 2018-2019.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following

questions:

1. What is the quality of the proposed organic Cockroach

Repellent out of Calamansi Extract, Onion, and Garlic in

terms of;
 1.1 Odorness;

1.2 Durability;

1.3 Cost of Effectiveness;

2. What is the quality of the commercial Cockroach Repellent in

terms of;

1.1 Odorness;

1.2 Durability;

1.3 Cost of Effectiveness;

3. Is there significant difference between Organic Cockroach

Repellent and Commercial Cockroach Repellent in terms of;

1.1 Odorness;

1.2 Durability;

1.3 Cost of Effectiveness;

NULL HYPOTHESIS

There is no significant difference between Organic Cockroach

Repellent and Commercial Cockroach Repellent in terms of;

1.1 Odorness;

1.2 Durability;

1.3 Cost of Effectiveness;

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will be beneficial to the retail industry for them to

promote organic cockroach repellent. This study will provide new

knowledge on alternative cockroach repellent that is favorable to

people’s likes. Specifically, this study will benefit the following:

Students/Pupils and Teachers- The pupils/students need

cockroach repellent in order for them to get rid of the cockroaches

people. This investigatory may help them save their money.

Parents- Parents are also need the cockroach repellent in order to

make their house safe from any infections and food poisoning from

cockroaches.

Researchers- They discovered that the natural resources like

calamansi, onion, and garlic can make an organic cockroach

repellent and with the help of these natural materials it could be

an organic cockroach repellent.

Future Researchers- This study will help the future researchers

as guide and reference materials in doing their own research about

cockroach repellent.

REASEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design

This experimental study tested the three main ingredients

(namely calamansi extract, onion, garlic). This study is focused on

assessing the quality of the proposed organic cockroach repellent

and its performance.

This study shows some modifications in the process to

improve the odorness, durability and cost of effectiveness.

Research Environment

This study was conducted at the Patronage of Mary

Development School. It is located in the town of Poblacion,

Boljoon, Cebu which is 103 kilometers away from the City of Cebu.

Boljoon is bounded by the town of Alcoy in the North, town of

Oslob on the South, town of Malabuyoc in the West, and Bohol

Strait in the East. The school is specifically located at S. Medida

Street Extension, Poblacion, Boljoon, Cebu. The Patronage of Mary

Development School was founded on January 8,2009. The school

has three buildings, the building A, building B, and building C (both

located in the S. Medida street Extension, Poblacion, Boljoon,

Cebu).
 The Building A or Saint Joseph building is a two-storey

building. The first floor consisting of the PMDS Chapel, Faculty

Room, and the Principal’s Office. The second floor is consisting of

three classrooms the Library, HE Room, and the Science

Laboratory.

The Building B or Saint Rita Building is a three-storey

building. St. Rita building is where you can find the canteen, PMDS

Quadrangle, where the flag ceremony is conducted every morning.

The first floor is consisting of 3 classrooms with separated comfort

room. The second floor is consisting of 5 classrooms. The third

floor consisting of 3 classrooms.

The Building C or the Sto. Niῇo building is a one-storey

building. Sto. Niῇo building is where you can find the Cafeteria and

the Parent’s shelter. Sto. Niῇo building is consist of 6 classroom

with separated comfort room.

Subjects of the Study

This study uses calamansi extract, onion, and garlic as the

main ingredients of the created organic cockroach repellent. These

materials are used because of their proximity , availability and

effectiveness.
 The respondents of this study were the twenty (20) selected

students, and ten (10) selected teachers, rating sheet was utilize

by the students and the teachers to determine the quality of the

organic cockroach repellent in terms of odorness, durability, and

cost of effectiveness.

Instruments

This study made use of a rating sheet that determined the

quality of the proposed organic cockroach repellent.
