In this Industrial 4.0 era, where technology growth has entered the era of
digitalization don’t let the students who are in productive age miss this era.
When they do the Internship Program they will face the digitalization
industries 4.0 for example Internet of Things (IoT) that transfer data from
network without human touch and use Artificial Intelligent (AI) instead.
Therefore, the students will learn and think more critically for future
technological industry advancements.

When Industries moving forward and using AI instead human worker, this

is the time where critical thinker thinks to adapt and be more skillfull. They
have options; to let it be,be more skillfull,or even made their own business

Poka Yoke mechanism to detect mistake/error,there are warning system for
example color coding and alarm. This made a big impact to prevent mistake of
human-worker.
There’s lot of interesting machine in Schneider Electric but author take
interesting topic entitled “APPLICATION OF POKA-PICK SENSOR AS
PART OF THE POKA YOKE SYSTEM IN INTELLIGENT
SCREWDRIVER”. With this, readers will know what method industry use to
prevent mistake, how amazing this system to reduce the mistake and how it
works.

1.3 Scope of Problem

In this limit opportunity, Author will describe the Poka Pick sensor in
some category,that is :

a. General description about Poka Pick sensor in Intelligent

CHAPTER III
APPLICATION OF POKA-PICK SENSOR AS PART OF THE POKA
YOKE SYSTEM IN INTELLIGENT SCREWDRIVER

3.3 General Descriptrion of Poka Pick Sensor in Intelligent Screwdriver

Schneider Electric Manufacturing is a big company, so as a big company
of course must be supported also by industrial machines that use advanced
technology. Therefore, Schneider Electric Manufacturing Batam not
ignoring the fact that prioritizing efficiency and as many small and large
companies do,they implement Poka Yoke system to prevent mistakes of
human-worker.

One of many advanced machines is Intelligent Screwdriver that

implement Poka Yoke system using Poka Pick sensor. So, Intelligent
Screwdriver integrated with Poka Pick sensor in the rack, that can be seen in
picture 3.1 below.

12
Picture 3.1 Intelligent Screwdriver Integrated with Poka Pick sensor

Poka Yoke is a mechanism or system that prevent mistakes. Poka Yoke

characteristic is simple and cheap, part of the process, and placed close to the
mistakes occur. In general Poka Yoke do 3 big picture; Eliminates the cause
of an error at the source, detects an error as it is being made, and detects an
error soon after it has been made but before it reaches the next operation.

Poka Yoke have various form because it’s a mechanism/system, for

example a sensor that detect correct or incorrect some activities (in this cas
Poka Pick sensor, picture 3.2) and when a kettle heats some water, it will
make a sound when the steam from the water is already hot enough. That's
an example in the industry and an example in everyday life. It is an
important mechanism that give a big impact to our life and to the company.

Picture 3.2 Poka Pick sensor

13
Intelligent Screwdriver is a screwdriver that controls the tightening
torque to accurately tighten small and micro screws. In Schneider Electric
Manufacturing Batam (SEMB) the Intelligent Screwdriver also connected to
a screen for show all the Poka Pick sensor signals . The example of
Intelligent Screwdriver shown below.

Picture 3.3 Intelligent Screwdriver

The Poka Pick sensor is a capasitive proximity sensor that can detect
anything that get close to the area, that’s why after we pick the object inside
the Poka Pick sensor area the sensors light will automatically turn off. This
sensor not just prevent a wrong picks of bolts, but also prevent from
damaged product because operator insert the wrong size of bolt.

The warning system that Poka Pick sensor have is light. It will show
green to indicated that bolt that we should pick . The example of Poka Pick
sensor indicated green light shown below.

14
Picture 3.4 Green Light on Poka Pick sensor

But there is some operator still can’t focus to the green light and instead
picks up the bolt near it, the incorrect place that operator hand reach will
turn on a red light shown below.

3.3 Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages :

1. No waste paper order (checklist paper),when we use paper order it’ll take
time to read the order, then search for the order, after that we repeat the
same things for another order.
2. Easy and safe operation.
3. Reliable user guide and pick up quality, compared to order picks.
4. Flexible order processing and detailed stock management.
5. Stock control through the inventory function.
6. Highest availability possible through standalone hardware checks.
7. Transparent order tracking.
8. Easy maintenance.
9. Short introduction training in an easy and clear system.

Disadvantages :

The Pick to Light System performs best when the picks are smaller and the
pick face area is dense, permitting pickers to concentrate on the work.

CHAPTER IV
CLOSING

2.4 Conclusion
a. Poka Pick sensor is part of Poka Yoke system that prevent mistake
from all human-worker and avoid cost losses for the company.
b. Poka Pick sensor in Intelligent Screwdriver have a strict warning to
make sure the operator pick the correct bolt and not damaged the
product by install the wrong size of bolt.

19
c. Poka Pick sensor in Intelligent Screwdriver reduce waste time because
it can speed up the work process by automatically shows the correct
how much and where the bolt should be installed.
d. It’s easy to learn by operator how the Poka Pick sensor work in
Intelligent screw driver because the purpose of Poka Pick sensor to
simplify the work of the operator.

2.5 Suggestion
a. It is suggested to operator, to learn first about Poka Pick sensor is a
part of Poka Yoke system in Intelligent Screwdriver station and always
put safety as priority like handgloves and face mask.
b. It is suggested to the operator dont forget to always focus to pick the
correct bolt and not damaged the product because install a wrong size
bolt.
c. It is suggested to Quality team, to always check the Operation
Working Standard (OWS) in every station to make sure the OWS still
valid.
d. It is suggested for Method Team, to put more Poka Pick sensor in other
station that still don’t use Poka Pick sensor.
e. It is suggested to Maintenance tim to always do the preventive
maintenance to this Poka Pick sensor.
