LABORATORY WORK NO. 1 INSPECTION OF THE TESTING LABORATORY

OBJECTIVE: To let the students become acquainted with the material testing laboratory,
the equipment available, and requirements of the course.

REFERENCE: Appendix A, B, and C, ASTM E 380

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Under the guidance of the laboratory staff member, visit the laboratory
and observe where the laboratory and testing equipments are located.

2. Inquire on the operation of the universal testing machine.

3. Make a list of the major types of testing equipment available. Take note
of the units of calibration and the dial divisions.

REPORT: Write an informal report that includes the following:

1. A guide to the laboratory, with the major features indicated on a sketch.

2. An illustration and a brief description of each of the testing machine

and equipment. This should include, where appropriate, the factor
necessary to convert the calibration units to the correct SI units.

Note: maximum of 3 equipment/apparatus in one page

3. An assessment of the role of this course in your education.
