I. Objectives:
a. Ascertain the use of quotation marks applied through various statements
b. Distinguish the rules of using quotation marks in a given statement through the set
activities
c. Realize the importance of using quotation marks in any real-life situations

II. Subject Matter: “Use of Quotation Marks”


Reference: Celebrating Diversity through World Literature LM, pp. 320-321

Materials: bond papers, pen markers, envelops, index cards, duplicated and multimedia
materials
III. Procedure:
A. Motivation:
1. Show to the class a set of statements/sentences and then let them read it aloud.
2. Let them observed and ask these
 What have you noticed from the statements presented?
 Do you think there is something missing? If yes, what is it?
3. Tell the class that the quotation mark is one of the most important punctuation
marks that we use

B. Presentation:
1. Ask the students if what the lesson is for today
2. Present the lesson about the “Use of Quotation Marks”

C. Discussion:
a. Discuss to the class the definition and properties of Quotation Marks

b. Group Activity
1. Divide the class into four groups and during the discussion of the
lesson, have each group read and prepare an example(s) from every rule of
using quotation marks
2. Wrap up students’ answers and do the same until the last part of the
topic

D. Application:
1. With the same groupings, have the class play a game called “What you stated,
I quoted.”
2. Explain the mechanics of the game as follows:
 All of you will be given two (2) minutes to prepare for the game.
 When the given time expires, a certain group will formulate a statement
from any of the rules discussed and give the said statement orally to the
other groups for them to write the given statement using the quotation
mark according to the rule proposed.
 After 20 seconds, the tasked groups will show their answers for checking.
 If the other three groups did not answer it correctly, the point will
automatically be given to the group who is giving the statement.
 Remind them that each group will only have one chance of giving a
statement to the other groups.
 When all the groups have taken their turns, the group having the most
number of points shall be the winner.

2. How do you define the meaning of Quotation Mark?
3. Do you believe that using quotation marks is important?
4. What if you will use someone’s statement(s) or say something that is not
directly coming from you, would you still believe that using quotation marks is
important? Why or why not?
