CAMP BATO

Rona Gellica P. Serenio

a. The Local Tourism Industry I have chosen is the Camp Bato in Manatad,
Sibonga, Cebu.

b. For a particular place to be known, it has to have something or somewhere

which is original from such. And for Barangay Manatad here in district of
Sibonga, we have this so called “Camp Bato”. It is a local tourist destination
which constructed in the year 1961 but up until now is still underdeveloped
although building, renovating and beautifying is still on the process.

c. Camp Bato is being run by the Evangelical Free Church of the Philippines
((EFCP) which is a non-stock, non-profit religious organization. It is a strategic
tourist destination which is perfect for big groups, organizations, affiliations or
even families who want to have reunions, fellowships, retreats, and the like.

c.1 Geographical Location

It is found on one of the barangays here in Sibonga, Cebu. Around 20 to
30 minutes from the Poblacion of the said municipality. Just along the national
road and on the right side if you are coming from Poblacion but if you are
coming from Dumanjug or Barili, then it is on the left side. It is on the lower
portion of the highest stoned mountain here in Manatad, Sibonga, Cebu.
c.2 Amenities

 Since it is being taken care by a religious organization, it has a

church.

 It is surrounded with 8 cabins with different names coming from the

precious stones.

 It has a very spacious session hall and dining area near the hill side.
This facility has a very overlooking view where you can relax.
 When you enter the gate, the tall stoned mountain can be seen right
away.

 The place also has a basketball and volleyball court for recreational
activities.
d. Socio-Economic Impact of the Tourist Destination

Since the place is being run by a non-stock, non-profit religious

organization, it has no entrance fee, parking fee or accommodation fee. That is
why up until now it is not yet fully furnished because it simply relies on
donations of the visitors or the campers. However, what makes it acceptable
and attractive with the commoners here is that it is also open to the residents
here whenever they want to enter the venue as long as they will just ask
permission from the Pastor and the caretaker plus they will have to respect the
rules such as no picking of flowers, no vandalism, no littering nor loitering and
no loud noises.

e. Recommendations

I highly recommend this place for those who want to have a retreat, a
camp, a praise and worship activities, a fellowship or simply to just have a
peace of mind. Aside from the fact that it is free of charge, it is a very good place
for solemnity and meditation. Whenever you want to use the place just book in
advance in their main or national office at Banawa, Cebu City.
Some places exist in order to promote the establishment and
development of health relationships among groups of people in the Philippines
and beyond in partnership with like-minded persons and institutions to the glory
of God… Thus, come and experience what it is like to be in Camp Bato,
Manatad, Sibonga, Cebu... For sure, in here, satisfaction will be reached out
especially for those who love to take pictures of themselves with the scenery.
And who knows? You might just realize something you never expected!
