Questions:

1. What communication barriers are illustrated in these videos?

 Based on the video case I just watched, the communication barrier illustrated
are first, emotional stress and pressure because Alex was very busy doing
his report and he has a deadline to beat. Second is panic because Mary just
came to his office looking very worried and problematic. Alex is very confused
because suddenly Mary starts the conversation with a loud voice which
makes Alex cannot understand what Mary’s saying. Lastly, the lack of
attention and interest to the conversation, Mary sent an email advisory to Alex
but, Alex was busy doing his report. If only Alex checked for a minute the
urgent advisory email about a broken production machine the flow of
conversation should be good and panic and chaos will not happen.

2. How do these situations illustrate the importance of verbal and nonverbal


communication as well as active listening?

 This situation gives importance to verbal and nonverbal communication as


well as to active listening through having awareness of giving priority to the
tasks needed to be done. If the information is urgent, or about health or
everybody will be affected, it should be first to be prioritized because others
may be in danger, like how Mary worriedly informed Alex that the machine
was not working well, If only Alex calmed himself and gave importance for
checking the machine, the machine will not explode. Also, if only Mary calmly
informed or interpreted the situation to Alex. He will not panic and will solve
the problem in a proper way.

3. Which other aspects of communication discussed in this chapter are illustrated in


these videos? Explain your answer.
 Based on the scenario in the video, the aspects of communication discussed
are First, the barriers to communication because Alex lacks interest and
attention to Mary because he is pressured to finish his report on time and
Mary was loudly informing Alex about the broken machine which makes Alex
cannot understand what is she is saying. Second, Organizational
Communication, if the information will affect the operation of the business, the
upward path of communication should be used to inform higher-level
employees to address the concerns. Lastly, Communication skills because If
Alex prioritized Mary’s concern he will be acknowledged by his manager well
and this will be a gateway for promotion and rewards.
