DETECTION SYSTEM- INSPECTION/CHECK

1. Inspect Fire Detection System

A. Fire Warning Sensor Cable.
(1) The length of the sensor cable should be within plus 0.500 inch (12.7 mm), minus 0.0 inch
(0.0 mm) of the identified full length. The identified full length is referenced in the part number
of the cable assembly. Refer to Detection System - Description and Operation.
(2) Inspect the center pins and contacts of each cable to see that the pins are centered properly
in the cable terminations, and that no foreign material or contamination exists in the recesses
surrounding the pins or contacts.
(3) Inspect for continuity between the sensor cable connector and ground. Refer to Detection
- Adjustment/Test.
(4) Inspect the sensor cable for proper mounting. Adjust the mounting clamps (as required) to
prevent the cable assembly from striking or chafing the adjacent structure.
(5) Inspect for evidence of engine bleed air leaking on the sensor cable.
(6) Visually inspect the sensor cable for cleanliness, nicks and abrasions.
B. Control Assembly.
(1) Inspect the control unit for security in installation.
(2) Check the connector for damaged pins and foreign material. Inspect the control unit for any
evidence of damage.
C. Functional Check
(1) The fire warning system is installed in the airplane and power is applied to the system.
(2) Position test switch (S22) to FIRE WARN; fire warning indicators illuminate.
(a) Sensor cable continuity, is checked.
(b) Fire warning wheatstone bridge, is checked.
(c) Fire warning relay and amplifier, are checked.
(d) Fire warning indicators, are checked.
(e) The short discriminating wheatstone bridge is not tested because the fire warning relay
has the short discriminating circuit disabled.
NOTE: A system verification test cannot be accomplished when a short is present.
(f) While in self-test FIRE WARN position, perform the following:
1 Disconnect one of the sensor cable connectors at the left engine. Refer to Detection
Sensor - Maintenance Practices.
2 The LH ENG FIRE light shall extinguish; RH ENG FIRE light illuminated.
3 Reconnect the sensor cable connector at the left engine. Refer to Detection Sensor
- Maintenance Practices.
4 The LH ENG FIRE light shall illuminate with the RH ENG FIRE light.
5 Disconnect one of the sensor cable connectors at the right engine. Refer to
Detection Sensor - Maintenance Practices.
6 The RH ENG FIRE light shall extinguish, LH ENG FIRE light illuminated.
7 Reconnect the sensor cable connector at right engine. Refer to Detection Sensor
- Maintenance Practices.
