64284-1Steering gear, install

Illustrations may differ slightly from the actual vehicle being serviced. However, key
components addressed in this information are represented as accurately as possible.
Special tools
88890148 88890149

1 Attach the strap and the hook.


2 Position the steering gear.

3 Install the screws.


4 Torque tighten the screws.
Tightening torque
Steering gear, screw 275 ±45 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890149

5 Install the pipes as marked.


6 Torque tighten the nuts.
Tightening torque
Hydraulic pipe, connector nut 70 Nm +7 nm+0 nm
Required material
Tightening torque
TORQUE WRENCH 88890148

7 Install the clamp.


8 Install the screw.
9 Torque-tighten the screw.
Tightening torque
Hydraulic pipe, clamp, screw 10 ±2 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890148
Tightening torque

10 Install the shaft.


11 Align the shaft with the marking.
12 Install the washer and screw.
13 Torque tighten the screw.
Tightening torque
Steering shaft, joint, screw 56 ±5 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890148
14 Install the link rod.
15 Install the nut.
16 Torque tighten the nut.
Tightening torque
Link rod, nut 275 ±35 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890149
17 Lock the nut with a split pin.
Note
Use a new split pin.

18 Check the position of the wheels.


19 Perform this procedure when the condition below is met.
Conditions
● When the steering gear is in centre position.
● If the wheels are not straight.
▶ Adjust the link rod.
20 Remove the limiter.
21 Remove the limiter.
22 Install the limiter.
Note

Use new part.

23 Torque tighten the limiter screw.


Tightening torque
Steering, limiter screw 13 ±1 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890148
24 Install the limiter.
Note

Use new part.

25 Torque tighten the limiter screw.


Tightening torque
Steering, limiter screw 13 ±1 Nm
Required material
TORQUE WRENCH 88890148
26 Fill with hydraulic fluid.
Note

Use recommended hydraulic fluid.


Note

The oil level must reach (MAX) on the dipstick.


27 Turn the steering wheel to the left to the end stop.
28 Turn the steering wheel to the right to the end stop.
29 Check the oil level.
Note

Top up the oil, if necessary.

30 Fill with hydraulic fluid.


Note

Use recommended hydraulic fluid.


Note

The oil level must reach (MAX) on the dipstick.

31 Set the key in position III.


32 Let the engine idle.

Max running time, engine 10 s
33 Set the key in position 0.

34 Fill with hydraulic fluid.

The oil level must reach (MAX) on the dipstick.

35 Set the key in position III.


36 Turn the steering wheel to the right to the end stop.
37 Turn the steering wheel to the left to the end stop.
38 Turn the steering wheel to the end stops several times.
39 Set the wheels straight ahead.
40 Set the key in position 0.

41 Fill with hydraulic fluid.

Use recommended hydraulic fluid.


Note

The oil level must reach (MAX) on the dipstick.

WARNING
Risk of serious injury.
A cab that is not tilted to the end position constitutes a safety risk.
▶ Always tilt the cab to the end position. Never perform any work under the cab before it
has been tilted to the end position.

CAUTION
Risk of material damage.
Damage may occur to the cab.
▶ Make sure that there is adequate space in front of the vehicle before tilting the cab.
42 Lower the cab.

43 Close the front panel.


44 Remove the jack stands.
