I.Mate Selection and Courtship

A.What issues related to Mate Selection/Courtship are found in the video clip ( Cite 5)
1. Age gap of the couple.
2. Trust issues.
3. Bringing out things that are supposed to be kept private.
4. Using boundaries to control the other partner (telling him not to work or stay up late)
5. Infidelity/lying.

B. Decribe Orpha as a partner (For 5 points)

Orpha is a strong and caring/loving and kindhearted partner. Her kindness is evidently shown
through the reactions of the children. She is a provider, typical of a mother who generously give what she
have.

C. Describe Alvin as a partner (For 5 points)

As a partner, I can say that he is not the typical partner who is “huthutero” despite their age gap
with Orpha. I can sense that he had loved Orpha but maybe tempted to get into other illicit affairs. I can
also say his humility when he asked forgiveness to all his shortcomings and when he expressed his
gratefulness to Orpha for loving his daughters.

D. What part in the video clip to you is very touching? Defend your answer for 5 points
As a mother, the most touching part for me that made cry is when Orpha bid goodbye and the
children came running to her crying and embracing her. Those gestures of the children only showed that
she has been a very good stepmom to them. I’m also touched by her promise to support the children even
if they parted ways. There is also a part of me, wishing, that they will end up together after patching
things up.
E. What lesson/s one get from the video clip related to Mate Selection/Courtship and Marital Life?
Respect. Both partners must have mutual respect for each other. Trust. This is the big one. All
healthy relationships require unguarded trust. These are the 2 lessons I learned from the story of Orpha
and Alvin because these are what they lack that’s why their relationship collapsed.

II: Family SET UP

Direction: Identify what kind of family set up do Orpha and Alvin have? Defend your answer for 5 points.

Stepfamily set-up but unlike in the usual set up of families that the father is the number
one provider for the family, theirs is the other way around when it comes to the breadwinner of
the family. Surprisingly, twas a smooth sailing set up not until Alvin committed infidelity.

III.Legal Separation and Divorce

Direction: If Morpha and Alvin went through the marital process in selecting a lifetime partner but have
met the same problem, will divorce be a solution? Defend your answer for 10 points.

While divorces are necessary, many marriages can be repaired. I myself passionately believed in
FOREVER, therefore, believed that divorce is not the solution to marital problems. Perhaps problems in
marriage should be a wake-up call to work on the marriage rather than take the road leading to divorce. I
believe that if partners choose to invest in their relationship and make needed changes instead of

repeating their mistakes, they might be able to avoid unnecessary divorce. One more thing, taking all
problems and lifting it to God is the best solution of all.
