Sexuality is a natural and healthy part of life. It is everything about being a male or
female. It is the most important aspect in masculine or feminine identification. Sexuality
involves the name given at birth, the toys played with, the clothes worn, the friends played
with, the roles and responsibilities at home. Sexuality provides a sense of self-worth when
sexual understanding is positive.

Sexual attitude and behavior have a great impact on how you view yourself and deal
with other people. Your sexuality is a natural drive that is with you from birth, but your
family, your culture, the media, and your peers are factors that help shape your attitude and
sexual behavior.
1. Family – Family values oftentimes determine your own values.
2. Culture-Filipinos living in different regions have diverse culture and beliefs. Your cultural
background can affect your values regarding sexuality along with the norms and standards set
by society.
3. Peers- Friends can also have a significant impact in your social interaction with other
people.
4. Media –Plays a significant role in our lives as we regularly watch television, listen to radio,
search the internet and read magazines and newspaper.
Having a healthy sexuality means you are well informed, careful, and respectful to
yourself and others. As you grow older you will experience a range of different changes so it
is important to learn as much as you can about sexuality and sexual behavior. The more
informed you are, the more prepared you are to make good choices.

It is in this stage that you are exposed to almost overwhelming struggles both external
and internal. You go through hormonal changes, puberty, social and parental forces, pressures
both in work and school, as well as meeting many conditions and difficulties. However, your
issues as a teenager vary but these it can be dealt with easily if properly guided and addressed
by parents and other guardians.
Your parents need to approach you, deal with it carefully and in a friendly manner at
times you feel that you are misunderstood. It is very important that your emotions and
thoughts are validated and that must come from your parents.
The most common problems teenagers face today include identity crisis, sexual
identity, sexual behaviors, pre-marital sex, teenage pregnancies, and abortion. Unexpectedly,
all these problems are related to one another, like a chain reaction. Those who cannot reveal
themselves take alternatives to show off, others resort to drinking and smoking in order to
relieve the stress. Those who cannot find love at home or support at schools start to build
relationships with friends in school or local areas, resulting in unsafe or underage sex, and
possible teen pregnancy. Many teens resort to crimes once they feel they cannot get any help
or support.
