B To be a Lawyer, Doctor, I prefer this to be my

Non-profit organization first as we all know that being
founder a child of a Rich family will give
us more choices in life. It is
because we cannot deny that
money and power really give a
great opportunity here in our
world. If I will be given a
chance, I will maximize all my
opportunities to bring out all
my potential for the
betterment of myself and also
to give a helping hand to
others.

D To be a Lawyer This is my second since

this is what my current
situation, I’m the youngest in
an average income family
earner then my father is a
government employee. This
will give me a good chance to
make my dream come true
with a good determination in
studying because I think my
father cannot finance us if I’m
not a scholar.

A Business Woman I pick this to be my

third because for me, being
independent person will make
me more ambitious and
determine in life to become
successful. I’m in the family
that everyone is supporting me
and everything is given quite
easy. If I will be on that
situation, it is a great
opportunity for me to get some
experience in the outside world
and stand on my own.

E Call Center In this case, I will still

Agent/Lawyer have a plan to become a
lawyer even our life is not
stable. It is because right now,
I’m an average minded student
that giving all my best just to
get a scholarship. Yes, it will
be a hard way for me if that is
the case but when I achieve
my dream, all there hardwork
for me will be paid off. If our
money will be short, I will work
as a call center agent just to
pursue my dream because
nothing is impossible if you
really want to succeed.

C CallCenter This is the least

Agent/Lawyer scenario for me because it is so
hard to be the eldest person in
your house. All the chores and
responsibility will be put on
your shoulder. It will be hard
to study while doing our
responsibility in our home but
still I will give my best to
become a scholar. I will be a
working student like my
example to the previous
scenario.

MODULE 4: ACTIVITY 1 ORGANIZE AND JUSTIFY
Instruction: Organize the following practices into positive or negative perception in each
Filipino values. Explain your reason why it is positive or negative.

Filipino Positive Negativ Justification

Values e

1.Utang na A G It is understood that the

Loob positive side of utang na loob
that we are returning the favor
but most of the time it just leads
to hatred that we stop talking to
them.

2.Ningas Cogon E This is negative values as

we will not finish anything and
leads us to be unproductive all
through out. This will not give
any effect in our lives.

3.Bayanihan M,C,P K It is a positive side that

our work will be done easily as
there are initiative, cooperation
and unity. Still there is a
negative side you will be
dependent to the help of the
others as time goes by.

4.Bahala na L B,F This is showing the trust

to our almighty God but it is
evident that it is more on
negative side as we are just
depending to the nature and
without any assurance of
success.
5.Close Family Q H Having a close family ties
Ties will make us family oriented and
showing all the love to our
family which is very important.
But the problem is that most of
the Filipinos are still with their
parents even they have their
own family because of strong
family ties.

6.Pakikisama J,N I This makes us more

productive and helpful that
benefit our growth and also to
others but most of the time, we
cannot be transparent to our
true opinion as we are valuing
the pakikisama.

7.Hiya D O Hiya is giving us the fire

to fulfill what we’ve said to
others but sometimes, this leads
to be abused by others or we
are abusing others because they
don’t have the guts to decline

8.Manana Habit T This is the most common

Filipino values that even me is
receiving a negative effect. Like
this activity, I always said that it
is easy so I will make it later
and it turns out that I took me
several weeks to start this.

9.Palabra de D S It is a positive side when

Honor you keeping what you’ve said
but the guilt in return will make
you paranoid that will make a
negative side to you.
MODULE 4: MY VALUES AS A PERSON

Instructions: To guide you in this reflection paper...answer the questions below and
provide your justifications. Your reflection paper is to be graded using the attached rubric.

1. Do you agree with everything the video says?

2. Which part of the video you disagree and why?
3. What other Filipino cultural traits that may have both positive and negative
connotations?

Reflection Paper

We all know that here in the Philippines, there are many attitudes and beliefs that we
are inherent from our offspring which is easily to adapt to each one of us. We have many
values that makes us distinct to other country because we are sticking to the latter. In the
video presented, it shows the positive and negative popular traits of the Filipinos. Those are
just a few values we have in our culture but we can’t deny some of it are now fading.

I’m not agreeing to all the list of the positive and negative values as I’ve watched the
short presentation. First, I can’t say that respect which is like the po and opo are still known
by the current generations. As time goes by and by my observation, most of us are
forgetting about it and even the mano part in the elders. Also, the strong work ethics is not
belong to our Filipino values. It is because most of the Filipino are not that dedicated to
their work in the current times especially the millennials that always finding another job
because as per them, they are not happy. Unlike in the other country like U.S, the have
strong work ethics and make it as priority.

I can also seen the strong family ties as positive and negative because it is common
to the Filipinos to stay to their parents even they have their own family. The independence
and standing in our own are not always practice here because we always rely to our family
but it is great that we are family oriented. Generosity may also seen as negative because
we as a Filipinos, we sometimes give and give even we don’t have enough resources to
ourselves that result for our own burden. Debt of gratitude is one of the other Filipino traits
that have positive and negative connotations. It is because we always have “utang na loob”
that sometimes makes a conflict when we didn’t fulfill and it is seen that you are just doing
things for them to pay you back.

Our lives have many values that we need to have for us to conform to the standards
of the society. Because of the set values, sometimes we cannot assess that there is a
positive and negative effect to us because it is a fixed moral. As a Filipino, we need to stick
to the values that makes us better person and get rid the negative traits because we are
commonly aware to it. Having some great values will make us on the top, even not in the
economic terms but into the moral terms. Values cannot be equate by anything, it is the
treasure that anyone of us can attain.
MODULE 5: A MORAL DILEMMA on TRUST or PROFESSIONALISM
Instructions: After reading the moral problem of Professor Magtanggol, evaluate the moral
dilemma using the following guide questions:

1. In deciding the moral problems, what are the salient moral principles that
can be cited? Justify the use of these moral principles by the characters in
the story.

- The salient moral principles that can be apply I that have integrity, stick to the
right side, and have courage. In the story of the moral problem of Professsor Magtanggol,
these moral principles may be applied to the latter and Mark. It is because having an
integrity will lead them to the right decision to what they are fighting for. Also, sticking to
the right side and in the side for your own means will solve the moral dilemma more
properly. Having courage will make Mark to fight for what is right and for the students itself
while to Professor Magtanggol she need to have courage to pull out the right decision within
herself. Having those moral principles will make each one of them lead into the solution to
the problem.

2. If you were Prof. Magtanggol, should you reveal the plans of Mark and his
group to the school administrators? Why?

-Yes, for them to become aware of the issue and the possible conflict that will
happen. This is a heads up for the administration and for them to solve the current issue
about the plastics waste. Revealing the plan of the Mark will prevent the moral dilemma as
soon as possible without making the student in danger. The exemption is that, Professor
Magtanggol need to address it correctly and not into a way that make the situation more
complicated to all. She also needs to talk to Mark her move for them to make their air clear
to each other.

3. In what stage and level of moral development the decision of Professor

Magtanggol may be found? Justify your answer.

- According to Kolhberg’s theory, the post conventional is the stage where one
person has his or her own beliefs towards the decision. It is where one is consider the
concepts of life, justice and other personal perspective to know the right and wrong
decision. In this case they are into that case as Mark is having his own stand based on his
perspective. They are also into the stage 5 as they aware that different opinions maybe
right and wrong that may lead into something. Mark is ready to disobey the rules in the
school because of his personal values and beliefs which is a good evidence that they are in
that level of Post conventional.
