1. Comment on this statement “Truth can be discovered only through nature”. 10pts.

“Truth can be discovered only through nature”, this statement tells us that there is
only one reality, and that reality is nature. It believes that everything becomes from
nature, returns to nature. Because there is only one reality and that reality is nature. It is
complete in itself, having its laws, it does not, therefore, require us to have insight or
intuition to understand nature. The material world is the only real world, it is the only
reality. It is being governed by a system of natural laws and man, who is the creation of
the material world, must submit to them. As you see, nature is complete in itself, having
its laws. It does not, therefore, require us to have insight or intuition to understand
nature, in short, we should follow nature to keep us close to the dominated, and its
peaceful ways are the most acceptable way of adhering to the demands of day-to-day
life.

2. Identify and define the forms of Naturalism. 15 pts.

Naturalism has three forms as the following:

1. Physical Naturalists (Instinctivists): It is also known as material naturalism,

emphasis purely on physical nature, and believes only in the reality of material
objects and the laws of mass and motion. Man is only one of the objects of
physical nature, creatures of mass and motion, therefore, children should learn
from their sensory experiences because the senses are the gateways of
knowledge. Let them learn by their own experiences.

2. Biological Naturalists (Darwinians): Based on Darwin’s theory of evolution, man

has evolved from lower animals by a gradual process of development to present
man. Man is the supreme product of this evolution. It derives its data and first
principles from the biological rather than the physical evolution; it accepts man as
the highest form of the living organism in the evolutionary process. And the basic
standpoint that each creature has an urge to live and struggles to exist, in the
struggle for existence those that are fit, survive, and those that are not, die. This
theory is best known as the survival of the fittest.

3. Mechanical Naturalism; it gives stress on modern Psychology-Behaviorism. It

deals with the conditioned response and effective principles of learning by doing.
This universe is a lifeless big machine but it is the man who manipulates the
machine through mailer and motion.
3. What are some implications of education of naturalism? 10 pts.

(Lamichhane, 2018) The naturalists view the world that we live in as made up of
matters, and believe that the material world, the world of nature, is the real world.
Applied to education, naturalism considers a child as a present of nature with
potentialities for natural growth consistent with laws of nature. The child is a lively
individual capable of self-development. Education aims to develop the child as a healthy
and active personality during a natural setting. The growth process must be natural and
real with no interference from outside. The powers of the child should be developed in
natural ways by allowing the child to freely interact with nature. The curriculum should
provide concrete and real experiences in a natural context. The child should be exposed
to a spread of sensory and physical activities. The child learns by interacting with
nature. Morality and character are learned directly with the assistance of natural
consequences. Discipline is developed as a result of the consequences of the behavior
of a child. The teacher plays the role of guiding the child to learn from nature.
