PHILIPPINE HEALTH SITUATION AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

1. What is the present health situation of our country and the healthcare system?

The Philippines is dealing with one of Southeast Asia's deadliest COVID-19

epidemics. Hundreds of hospitals around the country were nearing capacity, with
several facilities reporting that they had ran out of intensive care unit beds for COVID-
19 patients, leaving healthcare professionals fatigued from working longer hours.

The backbone of efficient COVID-19 control is case isolation, contact tracing, and
physical distancing. A competent public health system and sufficient staff are required
for successful implementation of these initiatives, both of which were lacking in the
country even before the pandemic. The lack of investment in health-care facilities, as
well as a scarcity of doctors. Nurses have been discriminated against while putting their
lives on the line, with people painting them as infected and avoiding them outside of
work.

2. What are the root cause of the present health situation or the social related inequities

Another factor contributing to the surge in cases was increased population contact,
which was made possible by the loosening of quarantine rules across the country.
People began stepping outside their homes after being quarantined for weeks by the
government's coronavirus task group, which stated that the economy needed to be
restarted and that people needed to return to work, however, not all minimum
standards are religiously observed. People are being stubborn and not wearing masks
and face shields.
