Fault tracing FMI 4: The voltage is less than the normal

value or is short circuited to earth
FMI 0: Excessive coolant temperature (ground)
Fault code conditions Fault code conditions
Coolant temperature exceeds 98 °C (208.4 °F). Voltage at the engine control unit, pin 27, is less than
0.07 Volt.

Possible reason
Possible reason
● Low coolant level.
● Short circuited signal cable to battery negative.
● Blocked sea water filter.
● Fault in sensor.
● Worn impeller in seawater pump.
● Clamped/leaking/blocked hose on the suction side
(sea water). Suitable action
● Defective thermostat. 1
Check cables between the sensor and engine control
● Blocked heat exchanger.
unit.
● Poor flow in the cooling system.
● Worn coolant pump. 2
● Faulty pressure cap, expansion tank. Check sensor.
● Faulty temperature sensor, coolant.

Suitable action FMI 5: The current is less than the normal

value or there is an open circuit
Check the coolant level. Fault code conditions
Voltage at the engine control unit, pin 27, is more than
2 4.95 Volt.
Check that the system does not leak.

3 Possible reason
Check that the sea water filter is not blocked. ● Open circuit in signal cable.
● Open circuit in battery negative.
4 ● Fault in sensor.
Remove the end wall from the reversing gear oil cooler
and check if the oil cooler is blocked.
Suitable action
5 1
Check the impeller in the sea water pump. Check cables between the sensor and engine control
unit.
6
Check the coolant temperature sensor. 2
Check sensor.
7
Clean the heat exchanger in the cooling system.
