Every country in the globe, perhaps, has notable historical personalities to whom

emancipation, independence, and peace are credited. One of those notable or historical figures
here in our country, the Philippines: Dr. Jose Rizal. According to Alatas (2017) Rizal lived a
short life but was an exceptionally productive thinker. He was known to be our National Hero.
Jose Rizal is open-minded, clever, and hard-working; to name a few characteristics. He also
yearned for independence from Spain in the Philippines, so that Filipinos would not be ruled by
another country. He was unconcerned about himself. He was more concerned with assisting his
country. His wit and wisdom is an inspiring source to gain patriotism emphasizing his ideals of
freedom and nationalism. Rizal’s life, works and writings plays a momentous role in fostering
the development of Filipinos especially the youths in all aspects of citizenship, recognizing the
importance of his ideals and teachings in relationship to the present state and pictures of our
society. A lot of people have been inspired by him, including me because I believe that as a
student and as a citizen of my country I am able to contribute in its growth by being aware and
knowledgeable of the happenings around the nation. It also tells us that even if we don’t have
enough strength to fight for what we believe and what we want to protect physically, if you’re an
intelligent person who is aware of what is wrong and right and a person that shows care and
humility to the nation and its people you can be a hero in your own way. He also emphasizes the
importance of education for the youth because he believes that “Ang Kabataan ang Pagasa ng
Bayan!” (Youth is the hope of a nation). Life will be very tough to live without education since
we would lack the necessary tools and information to confront the problems. As a result, this is
one of the factors that have an impact on me.
