DAILY INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9

December 13, 2017

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to prove theorems on
rectangle.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

A. Topic Quadrilaterals
B. Sub-topic Theorems on Rectangle
C. Materials Visual-aid, chalkboard, chalk eraser
D. Reference Grade 9 Learner’s Material page 320-322

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Preparatory Activities

A. Daily Routine
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of Attendance and Classroom

2. Lesson Proper

A. Activity

The teacher will ask the students to bring out any piece of paper and do
the activity. The students will follow this steps:
1. Mark two points E and P that are 10cm apart.
2. Draw parallel segments from E and P which are 6cm each, on the
same side of EP and are perpendicular to EP.
3. Name the endpoints from E and P as H and O, respectively, and
draw HO.
4. Draw the diagonals of the figure formed.

B. Analysis

1. Measure <OHE and <PEH. What did you find?

2. What can you say about the four angles of the figure?
3. Measure the diagonals. What did you find?
4. Does quadrilateral HOPE appear to be a parallelogram? Why?
5. What specific parallelogram does it represent?
C. Abstraction

Theorem 1. If a parallelogram has a right angle, then it has four right

angles and the parallelogram is a rectangle.

Given: WINS is a parallelogram

with <W is a right angle.
Prove: <I, <N, and <S are right angles.
Proof:

STATEMENTS REASONS
1. WINS is a Given
parallelogram with <W is
a right angle.
2. <W = 90 m Def. of right angles
3. <W  <N In a parallelogram, opposite angles
< I  <S are congruent.
4. m <W = m <N Def. of congruent angles.
m <I = m <S
5. m <N = 90 m Substitution (SN 2 & 6)
6. m <W + m <I = 180 Consecutive angles are supplementary.
7. 90 + m <I = 180 Substitution (2 & 6)
8.90 = 90 Reflexive property
9. m <I = 90 Subtraction property (7&8)
10. Substitution (SN 4 and 9)
11. <I, <N and <S are right If the measure of an angle is 90, then it
angles. is a right angle.
12. WINS is a rectangle. Definition of rectangle.

Theorem 2. The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent.

Given: WINS is a rectangle with diagonals
WN and ST.
Prove: WN  ST
Proof:

STATEMENTS REASONS
1. WINS is a rectangle with Given
diagonals WN and SI.
2. WS  IN Opposite sides of parallelogram
are congruent.
3. <WSN & <INS are right Theorem 1.
angles.
4. <WSN  <INS All right angles are congruent.
5. SN  NS Reflexive Property
6. WSN  INS SAS Congruence Postulate
7. WN  IS CPCTC
IV. EVALUATION
A. Refer to the given figure at the right and answer the following.
Given: EFGH is a Rectangle.
E F
1. If EJ = 4, then GJ = _______
2. If FJ = 6, then HJ = _______
3. If EG = 12, then FH = _______ J
4. m FGH = _______
5. m HEF = (y + 45)°, Find y. H G
6. If EG = 5x + 1 and FH = 4x + 6. Find x.
7. If FH = 7x and EG = 4x + 15. Find FH.

B. In a rectangle, the two diagonals are congruent.

Given: ABCD is a rectangle.
Prove: BD  AC
STATEMENTS REASONS
1. ABCD is rectangle
2. Def. of rectangle
3. AB  DC, BC  AD
4. SAS  Theorem
5. BD  AC
