I. Title.
Pen and Plays: A Lecture Series on Playwriting
II. Rationale
Playwriting is a process of writing a play (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2020). An
outstanding play or production is always because of the contribution of a great
playwright and playwriting. The pleasures of writing drama or a play can be all
significant for the playwright, actors, directors and other important persons within
a production. Playwriting is an exciting and an accessible discipline of both
performing arts and literature. Anyone can write a play, gather some friends as
actors, and round up an audience to present original Theatre play at its most
fundamental level. But to write great plays that engage and enthrall audiences
will need a more detailed exploration in playwriting. In connection, this lecture
series is generally about imparting to the participants a variety of learnings in
playwriting that includes: how to be a good playwright, knowing where ideas for
plays come from, how to create alive or fully dimensional characters, how to write
dialogue, where to start a play, how to develop a storyline and reach the story’s
climax, and how to bring a play to a satisfying conclusion. This lecture series will
be conducted virtually via Google Meet at every 3 o’clock in the afternoon
onwards, during every Friday of the week. This will feature only one resource
speaker/ person for every schedule of the sessions who will discuss the topics in
playwriting. There will be a total of five meetings, four for the episodes or
sessions and one for a virtual culminating activity.
