SESSION GUIDE

TITLE: LAC SESSIONS: STRUCTURING, EVALUATING, AND DOCUMENTING


Duration of the Session 2 hours
Key Understandings to be A Learning Action Cell(LAC) is a group of teachers
Developed who engage in collaborative learning sessions to
solve shared challenges encountered in the school
facilitated by the school head or a designated LAC
leader. LAC will become the school-based
communities of practice that are positive, caring, and
safe spaces.

 LAC Session has an Evaluation Tool which is used
to document the quality of a LAC session
conducted through a peer review at the end. It
has also a rating scale.
 LAC has to be documented too using a LAC
Documentation Tool. It is assigned to teachers in
a rotation basis.
Learning Objectives After a thorough discussion and with the aid of a video
clip, the participants will:
- Discuss the stages in a LAC session; and,
- Simulate a LAC session following the stages involved
- Simulate the documentation of a LAC session

Activity 1(20 mins.)
 View a video clip, LACbay story: A Journey of
Professional Development of Teachers
 As you watch, listen to how the teachers from San
Jose Elementary School, Camarines Sur structure
their LAC session.
Analysis(10 mins.) Ask:
 How do you describe the learning activities of the
teachers from San Jose Central School?
 What steps do teachers follow in conducting their
LAC sessions?
 The principal mentioned that the school follows a
regional memorandum stipulating how LACs should
be structured. How does this help the schools in
conducting their LAC sessions?
Abstraction(20 mins.) Discuss on:
-LAC Session Process
-Structuring LAC Sessions
-Evaluating LAC Sessions (its tool and rating scale)
-Documenting LAC Sessions (its tool)
Application(40 mins.)  Group the participants into 4. Assign 2 groups to do
the simulation while the other 2 groups will do the
process observation.
 Simulate a LAC session using the LAC process. Assign
a documenter to document the simulated session
 Simulate the process of evaluating the LAC session.
Analysis(15 mins.)  Process the simulation. Let the other 2 groups not
assigned to simulate to do the processing for 10
mins.
Concluding Activity End the session by presenting this quote:

SESSION 2: ORIENTATION OF THE TOOLS FOR EGRA AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Duration of the Session 1hr. & 45mins.


Key - EGRA has its components:
Understandings to be  Letter Name Knowledge- provide the name of upper
Developed and lowercase letters in random order.
 Letter Sound Knowledge- provide the sound of
upper and lowercase letters distributed in random
order
 Phonemic Awareness- segment words into
phonemes
 Familiar Word Reading- Read simple and common
one-and two-syllable words
 Unfamiliar Non-word Reading- make grapheme-
phoneme correspondences(GPC’s) through the
reading of simple nonsense words
 Oral Reading Fluency & Comprehension- read a text
with accuracy, with little effort and at a sufficient
rate
 Listening Comprehension- respond correctly to
different types of questions including literal and
inferential questions about the text read to them
 Dictation- write, spell and use grammar properly
with correct punctuation marks
Learning Objectives Given some activities, the participants will:
- 1. Identify the different components of the Early Grades
Reading Assessment(EGRA Tools)
- 2. Show appreciation on the importance of the tools
- 3. Infer the outcomes of the training
Resources Power point presentation, laptop, LCD, handouts, activity
sheets, manila paper, meta cards, pentel pen, scotch tape,
envelopes
Activity (20mins.) - Group Activity

 Participants are divided into 5 groups.


 In their respective groups, they will identify reading
skills in Grade I.
 They will write their responses in the meta cards
provided.
 Reminder: Before the activity, the facilitator will
remind the rules on visualization using meta cards.

. use a maximum of three lines
. use capital letters or combination of capital and
small letters
. don’t italicize the letters
. take an outsider’s perspective
 Post them on the designated area.
 Choose a reporter & present it in plenary.

Analysis ( 15mins.) - Process the responses by clustering meta cards with the
same reading skills after all groups have presented
- Ask:
- How did you feel while doing the activity?
 Let us identify common responses on reading skills
in Grade I.
 Classify the responses of reading skills from simple
to complex.
Abstraction ( 40mins.) Present the PPT.

 What are the components of EGRA?


 What reading skills that influence reading success?
 How important are these tools?
 Description of the Tests

Application (30mins.) - Draw and tell activity.


 Let each group pick one rolled paper.
 They will creatively make a visual material/s
presentation of an EGRA component that they got.
 Present it in plenary and explain on how to use it in
a lesson most especially in teaching MT, Filipino and
English.
Concluding Activity End the session by sharing this quotation:

“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”
