Title: Visual Inspection of Pipes.

1.0 Scope:
This procedure specifies to carry out visual inspection on external, and If possible
internal surface of the pipes following the standard ASME SEC-V.

2.0 Reference:
ASME SEC–V article-9 API 5L

3.0 Tools:
Measuring tape, Mirror, Magnifier, Inside and out side caliper gauge.

4.0 Inspection Personnel:


Persons performing this inspection should be qualified for visual testing
examination level II (VT-II) as per ASNT – SNT – TC – IA/1998.

5.0 Procedure / Technique:


Visual examination should be carried out by the following activities to find
surface condition of pipes.
5.1 Inspect the exterior of pipe for indication of pitting, corrosion, crack, dents, physical
damage and metal loss.

5.2 Measure the length, Internal Diameter (I.D.) and Outside Diameter (O.D.) to cross
check with the specification and evaluate ovality if any.

5.3 Check the pipe edges for any sign of cracks or sign of lamination and angle of bevel
in case of beveled edges.

5.4 As far as accessible, inspect internally for sign of corrosion & pitting.

5.5 In welded pipes, inspect the weld for any surface defects.

5.6 Check the mill certificate and hydro-test certificates as per the requirement of
relevant standard / specification.

5.7 Check for the identification marking as per the requirements of the specifications.

5.8 Prepare Inspection Report on qf-091-9.
