Reflection

PEST and SWOT models are strategic planning tools that are used to identify important

elements that affects the performance or the environment to which business operate. The

strengths of this models are that they give deeper understanding of the business environment.

In this case, I have understood the different factors why there is need to adopt the online

learning style. The most influential factors that significantly affect E-learning are well

presented in the two models. Another strength I have identified is that this model can manage

large pool of data. Schools are large institutions that are affected by various factors. These

models can easily simplify its processing. Although it is advantageous, it also has

weaknesses. For instance, PEST analysis is limited to assessment of external environment

making the results obtained to be incomplete. On the other hand, SWOT analysis lacks

objectivity and oversimplification. Although it is good to simplify, this model encourages

people to overlook at important factors. It is also fond of biases especially when dealing with

issues of personal interest. In education sector, this PEST model can be used identify the

external factors that directly or indirectly affect the decisions made. Such issues have

influenced the decision to introduce online classes at Swinburne. On the other hand, SWOT is

key to identifying internal factors that affects the decisions made in school. The opportunities

and threats are employed from the PEST model.

For strategic planning, students can deepen their knowledge and skills by experiencing a

more practical and critical approach to develop and implement functioning strategies.

Through the employment of this models, we will learn how strategic plans are aligned and

integrated with business plans. These models will also equip us with knowledge of analyzing

the organization’s internal and external environment. As leaders, students having good

knowledge of the model can communicate effectively and collaboratively work with other

Recommendation

I recommend that Swinburne University should maintain both physical and online learning

model.

Based on PEST, the social issue of coronal virus is the main reason to decongest universities

therefor the need for online classes.

A weakness of online classes is the loss of community class. human interaction is very

essential therefore there is need to maintain physical model.

Based on my reflection, Swinburne university should analyze the attitude of students towards

the learning model of their choice.
