CNHS DROP OUT REDUCTION PROGRAM REPORT

Dropping out of school has serious consequences for students and their families.
Students who decided to drop out of school face social stigma, fewer job opportunities, lower
salaries, and higher probability of involvement with the criminal justice system. This also
impacts student's self esteem and psychological well-being, faced with the reality that they
lack skills and knowledge to fulfill their desires.

DROP OUT REDUCTION PROGRAM (DORP) is an intervention program to reduce

the high dropout rate of schools and to improve learning outcomes using varied approaches
that are applicable both in public and private school.

The program aims to facilitate access of every Filipino to quality basic

education, which equips him with the basic literacy tools and content that are
essential for his growth and development as a person and as a citizen of a
democratic society.

This program is designed to reduce student disruptiveness in Carmen

National High School that could lead to non-age-appropriate regular classroom
placement (being held back in a grade or retained) and subsequent dropping out of
school.

Dropout reduction is very complex and does not lend itself to easy or quick
fixes. Effective dropout prevention, intervention, and recovery must be seen as an
adaptable and ongoing process. Significantly reducing the number of students who
drop out school takes a combination of systemic efforts at the community, district,
school, classroom, and individual student levels.
Carmen National High School has been very diligent in maintaining the number of
learners in the institution, thus making sure that the percentage of drop outs will be
minimized, though cannot be promised. Some practices are highly pushed through to get in
touch with the students and their families and to know more about the reasons why students
fail to attend their classes. Some of the reasons are as follows:

• Financial Difficulties
• Academic Struggles
• Early Pregnancy
• School Assistance (working while studying)
• Boredom (lack of interest in studying)
• Lack of Parental Support
• Conflict with other commitments
With all of these reasons, CNHS- Senior High School Faculty has been always
adoptive to the available DORP plan of the school. This includes 1. sending letter to the
parents to update them of the class status and standing of their kid and to inform them if the
learner is really attending the classes. If the parent is not available to meet the teacher after
reading the letter, 2. a phone call is given, which is most of the time is hard because there is a
percentage of parents who do not have cellphone and good phone reception. 3. Quarterly
Home visitation is the most common strategy used by our teachers to monitor the learners
and to meet the families for more understanding of the situation. Visiting students at home is
sometime risky, but most of the time fulfilling because you will really see the life of students
outside school- poor, sad and not capable of having the right education. These reasons are
the backbone of DORP plans of schools so that they can uplift the psychological spirits of
parents to send back their kids in school.
