CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD FROM DIVPORA TO SARBAL AND
KATHAHALLAN TO NAGB
History: - A good road network is the backbone of present day economy and
the same holds true for distt. Shopian. The area is a cluster of about five villages
with agriculture/horticulture being the main economic activity. The only means
of interconnection between the said villages and adjacent areas is the present
earthen road. The existing road is narrow and in a deteriorated condition which
makes it unusable for most of the year resulting in the disconnection of the only
means of communication of the area.

All standard norms as prescribed by PWD/IRC shall be followed during
execution of the bridge as it shall prove to be the main connecting link
of area. All measures shall be taken to make the bridge eco-friendly.
Culverts of appropriate spans shall be constructed for major X-drainage and
RCC pipes shall be provided for minor X-drainage. R walls in cement concrete
shall be constructed to retain earthen slopes at potential spots. Earthen/Kacha
drain shall be constructed with proper slope to ensure gravity flow.
ROAD GEOMETRICS
Route Selection: - The roads are earthen roads and pass through
agricultural/horticultural area and do not pass through any forest sanctuary or
cultural heritage area.
Condition of The Existing Road: - The road is an earthen road. Road surface
has shown undulations therefore GSB, WBM-II and WBM-III will be provided
for the full length followed by 50mm thick bituminous macadam overlaid with
25mm thick semi-dense carpet.
Geometric design:
A) Horizontal alignment: Since the road is earthen road, which don’t allow
the traffic, even it becomes very difficult for the pedestrian to use the
road during rain, therefore GSB, WBM-II and WBM-III will be provided
for the full length followed by 50mm thick bituminous macadam overlaid
with 25mm thick semi-dense carpet.
A few curves exist on these links and these too have curvature of 50m
and SSD of 20m .The road formation will be maintained with cross fall of
1:50 in the carriage way and 1:20 on earthen shoulders ,super elevation
does not exceed 1:15 and extra width at curves shall be maintained as
required under IRC codes.
B) Vertical alignment: The geometrics will be within permissible limits of
IRC.
C) Pavement: Pavement will be strengthened as per CBR test. As per this the
additional thickness shall be achieved by providing one coat of GSB in

worn out portions and one coat of WBM-II ,WBM-III for the entire
length and finally 50mm macadam with 25mm thick semi-dense.
D) Other features: Earthen drains shall be provided keeping in view the
angle of response of soil ,pipes of suitable diameter will be laid at
places of necessity ,b/walls shall be constructed in cement concrete at
places of utmost necessity.

Further the improved connectivity will enhance the proper flow of technology
services especially that of health services and availability of agricultural inputs.
COST ESTIMATES: The cost estimates as per enclosed annexures include all
the works needed for the execution of strengthening/upgradation of the road to
proper specifications. The estimates have been framed on PWD sanctioned
schedule of rates in vogue which is based on IRC/MOST specifications.

2. Providing and laying bitumen macadam base secure with
stone aggregate of quality size and grading as per specified
in CPWD specification and straight run bitumen of 80/100
@3% by weight of total mix including hot mixing of stone
aggregate and bitumen in hot mix plant, transporting mixed
material and laying with Paver finished to required level
grade, rolling with road roller of 8 to 10 ton capacity to
achieve the required compaction and density including coat
of carriage of all materials involved T & P and equipment
all allied machinery labour, taxes, testing charges for
maintaining quality control during and after the execution of
work complete job (excluding cost of tack coat) 50mm thick
compacted thickness (quarry) And Providing and applying
tack coat using hot straight run bitumen of grade 80/100
including heating the bitumen, spraying the bitumen with
mechanically operated spray unit fitted on bitumen boiler,
cleaning and preparing theexisting road surface as per
