Name of Expierment :-
DC shunt-wound generator, self-excited
Aim:-
Understand how to work DC shunt-wound generator, self-excited and what happen when reverse
the rotation direction of the prime mover and Understand the relationship between voltage
generator and current and power by changing the load .

Task 1:-
Rotation Direction and Polarity

Required settings:

 Brake mode: "Speed Control"

 Field regulator: minimum setting (0 Ω)
 Load resistor: maximum  (0.2 kW class ~ 666 Ω)
 Multimeter measurement method: arithmetic mean

Experiment procedure:

 Put the generator into operation by running the drive motor up to a speed of
approx. 2000 rpm
 Measure the generator voltage VG and enter this into the box corresponding to
the rotation direction
 Now reverse the rotation direction of the drive motor
 Finally measure the generator voltage VG again and enter this value again into
the corresponding box

"Rotation direction and polarity"

Conclusion:-
The DC shunt-wound generator, self-excited depends on residual magnetism when operate
prime mover in clockwise the Maine field aids the armature field and we have output voltage
but when you reverse the direction of the prime mover the armature field opposes the Maine
field so cancelled each other and build down the generator.
Task2:-
Load Characteristics

Required settings:

 Brake mode: "Speed Control"

 Field regulator: minimum setting (0 Ω)
 Load resistor: maximum  (0.2 kW class ~ 666 Ω)
 Multimeter measurement method: arithmetic mean

Experiment procedure:

 Put the generator into operation

 First run the drive motor up to a speed of 2000 rpm
 Make sure that you have the correct rotation direction of the motor, as
determined in the experiment "rotation direction and polarity"
 Now the nominal exciter current must be set using the field regulator
 Reduce the resistance in consistent intervals
 In the process measure the generator voltage VG, the armature current IG and use
these measurements to compute the power output P 2
 Transfer all of these values into the table

700 180 0.32 57
550 176 0.36 64
400 165 0.49 81
250 146 0.61 89

Compeer between voltage and current and power:-

Conclusion:-
When we add the load In this type of generators the power increase until arrives in a specific
point there is big drop voltage will cause because the Maine field has decreases the current
that cause low field ,the low Maine field will cause low output voltage that continues to arrive
no output voltage.
