Every month of July, the Philippines celebrates the National Nutrition Month. It
is an annual nutrition education and information campaign which focuses on the
importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and
physical activity habits. Furthermore, this campaign does increase awareness
among families and individuals on coping and resiliency strategies to prevent
malnutrition and worsening of nutritional status in times of emergencies and
disasters. Generally, we traditionally celebrate this in schools wherein students
showcase their talents in arts in making posters and slogans which helps the public
to become aware of the importance of good nutrition and a healthful eating plan.
In accordance with the Chapter VI, Section 30 of the Republic Act No. 10742
or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, “Every barangay, municipality,
city, and province shall conduct an annual activity to be known as the Linggo ng
Kabataan….” In coordination of Sto. Tomas Scholars’ Association with Sangguniang
Kabataan Federation, this event with the theme of “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na
Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan” will become part of the Linggo ng Kabataan
event. As both STSA and SK have the same goals, this also links them to have the
youth to become creative and informative in order to develop and help the youth to
become empowered. Additionally, this collaboration will be a big opportunity for Sto.
Tomas Scholars’ Association and the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation to become
involved and to work together. Both STSA and SK will work together by conducting
an event to raise awareness in prevention of malnutrition and nutritional status which
is significant in today’s happenings. An event will be conducted in order to celebrate
as well as appreciate the talents of the Sto. Tomas Youth. The event is a contest
wherein the participants will create a Digital Art about the theme of nutrition month
through the use of digital gadgets or any applications and making an Essay with
regards to the given topic.
As the Province of Batangas is in strict implementation of quarantine and
gatherings are minimized, Sto. Tomas Scholars’ Association, as the organization
formed to help the youth of Sto. Tomas, will conduct the “Be Smart, Eat Smart” with
the theme “Malnutrisyon Patuloy na Labanan, First 1000 Days Tutukan” through the
use and availability of social media platforms, specifically Facebook. There will be a
Facebook post regarding the contest to be held for this event. Instructions and
announcements will be posted on July 16th
