3 SCOPE OF WORK
Now the new Topographical Survey has been performed for revalidation of the survey of the
below areas, but not limited to the following:
1. Administration Area
11. All Types of Crossings such as pipeline crossings, road crossings, waterway crossings
Apart from the above, the existing Archaeological survey data, findings near the proposed
Booster Pump station Area and Sea water intake facility areas has been studied and attached
as part of this Document (Refer Attachment 4- Findings Of The Suspected Archaeology

From the verification results table above, the survey team processed the survey data and
found the horizontal accuracy is better than 2 cm, and the vertical accuracy is better than 1.5
cm, which has a good precision and can meet the accuracy requirements of topographical
survey for the project.
A2
The benchmarks are all in a convenient for survey observation place. The benchmark
established at plant areas out of construction area and Right of Way (R.O.W) of pipeline route
with properly marked and protected from the accidental displacement.
The horizontal coordinates and elevation were established from a combination of static
differential GPS observations using existing benchmarks.
All excavations for all establishment of benchmarks have been done manually using hand
tools and the area where new benchmarks to be installed has been scanned by radio
detection to make sure that no underground utilities would be hit/damaged during
excavation. Shovels were used for the excavation and mixing the cement and trowels for
concrete finishing.

Twelve new benchmarks (BM01, BM02, BM04, BM05, BM06, BM07, BM08, BM09, BM10, BM11,
BM12 and BM13) were established on strategically chosen locations for the project.
A spirit levelling was carried out from the existing benchmarks to the new benchmarks.
New Controls surveyed using GPS static method to get the planimetric position. And software
of Hi-Target Geomatics Office was used for survey adjustment.

Ground levels were captured from Real-Time Kinematic GPS techniques on an approximate 5-
10m grid basis with additional break lines and form lines measured where required to ensure
all significant changes in elevation are recorded to create an appropriate digital terrain model
(DTM) to simulate as closely as possible the land terrain form.
Planimetric details were surveyed by real-time kinematic (RTK), kinematic GPS and
tachometric techniques using Hi-Target dual-frequency GPS receivers for automatic recording
and downloading of coded observations. Prism-free Total Station used to collect hard-to-
reach terrain points.
All survey observations were computed based on control above and transformed into
AutoCAD digital drawing format.

4.6.3.2 Methodology
Both active and passive methods are used to ensure all possible detectable services are
located. Utilities, that cannot be detected by either passive or direct induction i.e. PVC or
concrete pipes will not be captured and dead and fiber optic cables will only be connected or
shown through above ground evidence.
An active signal is a signal that has been artificially generated by an external source. Active
radio-detection methods can allow different services such as electric cables, telephone cables,
Page 18 of 67

TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY REPORT (ONSHORE)

metallic pipes etc to be individually identified. Active methods involve the use of a
transmitter. The transmitter can either be used for direct connection or for induction. Direct
connection involves the application of an active signal to a conductor using a clamp.
Induction involves a signal being radiated from the internal antenna of the transmitter which
is induced to any conductors in the vicinity and re-radiated. Generally, 8, 33 or 65 KHz
frequencies are used. It is often possible to determine the depth of the service in this mode
up to an accuracy of ±10 centimeters.
A passive signal is a signal that occurs ‘naturally’ on a buried conductor. Passive radio
detection methods will provide an indication only that services are present underground.
Passive methods use that electromagnetic fields already present around the underground
utility to locate them.
4.6.3.5 Mode
Radio – detects re-radiated radio energy often present on conductors – it is not possible to
determine depth in this mode.
GPS RTK method was applied to obtain the coordinates and elevations.
EPC Contractor use Radio-Detection to detect the entire survey limit, and inquired with the
local fishers and the operators in adjacent construction areas, that confirmed there haven’t
any underground pipelines or other underground facilities within the survey limit.

6 SURVEY RESULTS
EPC Contractor found that there are few buildings available near the access road survey limit
A2
and have been marked in the topographical survey map. In addition, there are some
suspected graveyards/Tombs on the southeast side of the whole area. EPC contractor have
sorted out the findings, formed a report and submitted to the Company. For the detailed
information about these findings, refer to Attachment-4.
EPC contractor will contact with local Omani government authority to confirm all the findings
and provide proposal as per instruction of local Omani government authority.
All static post processing GPS vectors were input into the Hi-Target Geomatics Office
adjustment package, where a good result was obtained after a single iteration.
The veracity of each RTK GPS data session is confirmed by means of known check points,
observed during the session. These allow the operator to ensure on a daily basis that the
survey data being gathered is of sufficient quality to pass both the contractual requirements
of the job, and the QA/QC requirements of the company procedures.

7 SUMMARY
The project was mobilized on 28th December 2018 and completed in 62 days.
A2
GPS and Total Station equipment were used to perform the topographical survey.
A total of 128286 points were surveyed and collected for the project.
All existing above ground as well as underground features (where defined by surface
markers) within specified area were surveyed.
Twelve new Benchmarks were established with reference to the existing Benchmarks.
CASS2008 software was used to generate the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) for
contouring generation.
A2
General visual terrain surface description is sand and gravel, undulated rolling terrain
with scattered humps ranging from 0.5m to 2.0m approximate height.
EPC Contractor have checked and confirmed with EPC 1.1.3, determined the use of
consistent coordinate systems and elevation systems, and EPC Contractor required SUB
contractor who will undertake the offshore survey work and geotechnical work to use
A2
the same coordinate and elevation system with the onshore limit.

8 RECOMMENDATIONS
The Combined Distortion Scale Factor shall be considered in the design and construction
process in order to avoid the difference between the ground distance with the grid
distance in the follow-up work of design and construction.
Due to the large relative elevation in the construction area of the pipeline corridor, it is
recommendation that the safety protection work should be done well in the subsequent
construction work, and the more suitable construction equipment should be selected for
the project terrain.

The field Topographical survey is performed at the proposed Booster Pump station, Sea
water Intake facility areas and along the cliff road. One cemetery and several numbers of
suspected graves/tombs are found at this location. These kinds of structure are observed on
either side of the proposed utility corridor/access road between these two stations. Many A2
such structures are seen at different places in this area with similar signs & shapes near the
project area.
The below Figure 1 shows the overall view of all these 5 spots in the worksite area.

facilities. EPC Contractor is studying this spot in line with the recommendation of the local
Omani government authority so that this existing structure will not be disturbed from the
ongoing site activities.
The below Site photos (Figure 2, 3) taken during the survey are presented below to visualize
the position of this structure.

EPC Contractor will study the possibilities of relocating the proposed access road and the sea
water intake facility away from these observed structures. In this regard, the EPC Contractor
is coordinating with the local Oman government authorities to propose a compatible
infrastructure such that these existing structures are retained in their original position.
