Prehistoric art refers to artistic works done before historians were
able to formally record and document the works for posterity. Many artistic
artifacts or materials that point out to the presence of human civilization
have been discovered in Europe, Africa, Asia and other continents. These
primitive etchings, sculptures and structures were commonly done with
charcoal, colored stones, and minerals. The subjects were mostly animals
though there are some sketches of humans in action.
Examples of such prehistoric art were found in the Cave of Altamira in
northern Spain, which have been dated to be between 14,000 to 18,500 years
