PROJECT TOPIC: DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WEB BASED TRANSCRIPT

GENERATING SYSTEM FOR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS (A CASE STUDY OF YABA
COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY)

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

Transcript generating system is a system of generating transcript for students who want to further
more on their academics by going to study in another institution. There is need for generating
web based transcript because it reduces students stress while queuing for so long in order to
collect their transcript to be able to register for other institution they which to go. Since the world
keep on advancing day by day, we need to implement efficient way of generating transcript for
students. We are lagging behind in most of our schools in Nigeria because we are not making use
of web base and this is slowing down our operation. For example, before we could pay our
school fees we need to queue in bank for so many hours to be attended to. This kind of system is
so annoying and we need to make amendment by undergoing web base. Since this project it
limited to tertiary institutions, the implementation of web based transcript for tertiary institutions
need to be established so that student can find it easy to get their transcript easily and need not to
queue before collecting it. The implementation of transcript generating system for our tertiary
institutions in Nigeria today is of great need because student can go online and download or print
their transcript. This system will help student a lot because they will not need to come to their
former school they graduated from before they could collect their transcript. This could be done
anywhere they are by going online to download the transcript. Web based system is far better
than manual system because it reduces the slow level of operation and students stress. We really
need web based transcript generating system in our tertiary institutions to hasten slow level of
operation and student stress.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SCOPE

Web Based Transcript Generating System is a web based application also called thin client. The
system facilitates transcript generation. Student can download and print their transcript via
internet. The stakeholders of the system are Students, System Administrators and School
Management. To automate this system successfully, a detailed knowledge of database will be
helpful because to generate any transcript for any student a web base application will need to be
developed and a database as well.Before a student can be able to download or print his/her
transcript, login information will be required i.e. the student will login with his/her username and
password. The student username will be his/her Matric Number and the password will be his/her
Surname. After logging in, the student information will be stored in the database and
automatically will generate the student transcript recognizing the student Matric Number and
Surname. This system can be made successful with the help of database else transcript cannot be
generated for any student.

The main scopes of a Transcript Generating System are listed below:

1. The system facilitates information about students.

2. The system facilitates information about departments.
3. The system facilitates information about school/faculty.
4. The system facilitates information about courses.
5. There will be system design that will prevent students from manual system.
