Nutrition Labels: A note from our CEO!

!
FACT: Americans are the most nutritionally educated consumer in the world and
yet we are the most obese country in the world. Why? !
!
We have been forced to read labels very carefully over the past 40 years due to manipulative !
marketing tactics by food companies and diet companies. We have been somewhat mislead
into believing that processed foods are okay or ‘not that bad’. Now we are discovering they are
actually a lot worse for us than anyone could have ever imagined. !
!
Before 1970, no one in America had to read labels and interesting enough America did not have
an obesity problem. Why? Because we ate natural food (meats, vegetables, eggs, cheese, etc.).
No one knew what a calorie was and no one worried about eating fat from meat or dairy. Also,
we rarely ate sugary or processed foods because they had to be homemade or purchased at a
restaurant. So what happened? !
!
In the late 60’s fat in food was deemed as the culprit for heart disease (while it was actually due
to smoking) and all the food companies, medical experts and government began the fat free
revolution. Sugar, High Fructose corn syrup, enriched white flour and preservatives were
overlooked. Thus the food industry began adding these overlooked ingredients to their foods
and within about 5 years obesity began its alarming increase and ‘dieting’ was born in the USA.
I sincerely do not believe there was a conspiracy. They were simply doing what they felt was the
right thing. !
!
Fast forward to today. We have become convinced that natural fat (meat, butter, cheese, etc.) is
the culprit and that grains and fruits should be the main staple of our diet. We have also been
told that it’s okay to cheat every X# of days if you stay within your points or calories. Let me be
very candid…this is incorrect. !
!
The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to learn to eat natural foods and to avoid the
‘overlooked’ foods, listed above, plus most grains and fruits. Our goal at Personal Trainer Food
is not to help you lose 10lbs in 1 day. It’s to help you transition from processed foods to natural
foods so that when you go off our program, you will know what to eat and what to avoid. !
!
So while you read the nutrition label information below, try to remember that calories, fat, carbs,
etc. are pretty irrelative because you are eating nature’s food… meats, vegetables, eggs,
cheese and nuts…the foods we ate before America was obese.
