IV. PROCEDURES

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routine Prayer and greetings
a. To integrate within the curriculum, let the pupils do a
“ROUND UP/ROUND DOWN” activity. This is a form of
formative assessment.
b. Teacher will show 5 different whole numbers to be rounded
off to the nearest hundreds.
c. Pupils will decide on whether to round up or round down.
a. Drill
d. They will answer through gestures. Everyone in the room is
standing. If their answer is ROUND DOWN, they should bow
their heads. If ROUND UP, they should remain standing
straight.
e. They will be asked to sit down after all the questions are
answered.
a. Let the pupils do a time-telling activity.
b. Review
b. Teacher will show an analog clock for pupils to read time.
c. Checking of
Ask if they have brought with them their electricity bill.
Assignment
2. Motivation -Let the children read the goal for the day:
I can read electric meters and solve problems about it.

□ I can’t. I will do better tomorrow. (0-7)

□ I can. I feel very happy. (8-10)
a. Show pictures of the different appliances that are usually
seen at home. (electric fan, air-conditioning unit, flat iron,
TV)
b. As a form of diagnostic assessment, ask which they think
consumes the most energy.
c. Let them decide by group. Each group is named as the
leader’s household (e.g. Bartolome household). Each
household is given chips indicating their group number. One
member should come in front to put their chips under the
picture of their answer.
d. Tell them that at the end of the lesson, this will be answered.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Ask: “How much is your monthly electric consumption?” They can
answer this using the electricity bill that they brought.
2. To integrate life skills, ask: “Do you read the contents of your
electric bill?” “Are you aware of how MERALCO computes for your
monthly electricity bill?” Let them look into the back portion of the
bill and direct their attention to the previous and present meter
readings.
3. Say that today, we will try to compute for the electricity
1. Presentation
consumption of different families. First, the Masinop Family. The
parents of the Masinop children taught them to save energy as
much as they can. They turn off the fan and lights when not in use.
They choose their favorite show and watch with the whole family.
They turn off the TV after the scheduled time. They make it a point
to help their parents save money by saving electricity.

“Last month, the Masinop family’s electric consumption is this:

(direct their attention to hands of the dials). How do you read it?”
1. Show the pupils the steps in reading the electric meter and ask
2. Modelling
them to read it one step at a time.
2. Model how to read the meter as the pupils read the steps.
1. Continue reading the problem. “This month, the electric meter
reads as (direct their attention to the new electric meter reading).
2. Ask the pupils how to read it. Let them use their show-me-boards
to write on their answers.
3. Guided Practice 3. Give points to the household who got it correctly.
4. Give another example for the Maaksaya household. Say that in this
household, nobody cares about electric consumption. They leave
their TV on even when no one is watching. They use the air-con
almost the whole day. They leave their appliances plugged in even
if they are not at home.
1. Let the pupils get the meter reading of family Maaksaya.
4. Independent 2. Let them write their answer in the show-me-board.
Practice 3. Ask someone to explain their answer. If there are two different
answers, call on them to explain in front.
1. Ask the following questions:
a) “How do you read the electric meter?”
b) “Think about your own household. To which family can you
compare your own family, Matipid or Maaksaya? Why?”
C. Generalization c) “How can you help save energy?”
d) Show the pictures of the appliances once again. Ask them
which they think consumes the most energy?
e) Lead the class into thinking that no matter the wattage,
electricity consumption is affected by the number of hours an
appliance is turned on or is being used.
Ask the pupils to go back to the electric consumptions of the Matipid
and the Maaksaya families. Assuming that each kilowatt/hour amounts
to P5.33, how much should each of the families pay? Let them
D. Application
compare the amount that the families should pay. Tell them that
MERALCO’s computation is way higher than what we are computing
because of the taxes that are added to the consumption.
E. Evaluation Give each group a worksheet. Let them answer it in 5 minutes.
Outputs will be checked using this rubric.

VI. REMARKS

Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your students’ progress today. What works?
VII. REFLECTION What else needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify what help your instructional supervisors can provide for
you so when you meet them, you can ask them relevant questions.
