Chú ý: who có thể làm chủ ngữ hoặc tân ngữ

Whom chỉ có thể làm tân ngữ

Đại từ quan hệ which

I have a book. I bought it last week

 I have a book which I bought last week (which: tân ngữ)

I have a book. It is about adventure

 I have a book which is about adventure (which: chủ ngữ)

Đại từ quan hệ whose

I made friends with a person. His hair is red

 I made friends with a person whose hair is red

I made friends with a person. I borrowed his bicycle yesterday

 I made friends with a person whose bicycle I borrowed yesterday

Đại từ quan hệ “that”

Dùng thay thế cho who/whom/which trong MĐQH xác định

The woman who/whom/that lives next door is beautiful

The woman who/whom/that I have studied with for two years is beautiful

I have a book which/that is about adventure

Phải dùng khi N mà nó bổ nghĩa có cả người và vật và so sánh nhất, số thứ tự,….

The man and his dog are running. They live next door

 The man and his dog that live next door are running

He is the first person. He won an award.

 He is the first person that won an award

Chú ý: TRONG MĐQH Xác định, khi WHO, WHOM/WHICH đóng vai trò tân ngữ-> ta có thể lược bỏ

Ex: The woman who/whom/that I have studied with for two years is beautiful-> có thể lược bỏ (MĐQH
xác định và ĐTQH là tân ngữ)

 The woman I have studied with for two years is beautiful

Ex: I have a book which/that is about adventure-> không thể lược bỏ (vì là chủ ngữ)

Ex: Duy, whom I taught for 2 months, is really intellengent-> không thể
