OMICRON PTL ZIV IDV-L Transformer PTT User Manual

1. General
This user manual describes details of testing ZIV IDV-L relays with the OMICRON
Protection Test Template (PTT). General information on the usage of OMICRON
Protection Testing Library items can be found in the OMICRON PTL user manual.

The template has been tested with the following relay:

Manufacturer: ZIV
Model: IDV-L
Firmware Version: 4.00

2. Software and Hardware Requirements

To use this template, you must have a valid test license for the OMICRON Test Universe 4.00 software or
higher versions and the following test modules:

• Control Center
• Diff Configuration
• Diff Trip Time Characteristic
• Diff Operating Characteristic
• Diff Harmonic Restraint
• Overcurrent
• Ramping
• State Sequencer

A CMC test set with six current outputs is required. A CMS 356 current amplifier may be additionally
required for testing with higher currents e.g. relays with 5A current measuring inputs.

3. Hardware
There are multiple possibilities of wiring a ZIV IDV-L relay to a CMC test set. The advised connections for
testing side 1 and 2 are shown in Figure 1 and for side 1 and 3 in Figure 2. These connections are the
default settings in the HardwareConnection

5. XRIO Converter
The Test Object already contains the ZIV IDV-L XRIO Converter, which includes setting parameters of
the modelled protection relay. The setting parameters are built as an image of the ZIVercomPlus 2.9.3.0
software. General information about the converter structure can be found in the OMICRON PTT user
manual.
At this point the specifics of the section Additional Information is described. The
Transformer Information block includes parameters for the Nominal Voltage of each side and the
Nominal Power of the transformer. These values should be adapted for having these values in the test
protocol.

6. Specific Protection Tests

At this point specific protection tests, which are not covered by the OMICRON PTL User Manual, are
described.
The Diff Harmonic Restraint test module is used to check the correct relay behavior of the harmonic
blocking of the differential protection. Three currents are required for this test, which are carried out on
transformer side 1. For the test a search line is placed at Idiff = 1 × Iref. Additional search lines can be
added by the user.
