1. General
This user manual describes details of testing MiCOM P442 relays with the OMICRON
Protection Test Template. General information on the usage of OMICRON Protection Testing Library
items can be found in the OMICRON PTL user manual.

1.1 Supported Relays

The following relays can be tested with the Protection Test Template:
 P441
 P442
 P444

2. Software and Hardware Requirements

To use this template, you must have a valid test license for the OMICRON Test Universe 3.00 software or
higher versions and the following test modules:
 Control Center
 Quick CMC
 Advanced Distance
 State Sequencer
 Overcurrent

Any CMC test set can be used with this Protection Test Template.

3. Hardware
There are multiple possibilities of wiring a MiCOM P442 relay to a CMC test set. The advised connections
are shown in Figure 1. These connections are the default settings in the Hardware Configuration of the
PTT.

*: optional, only SOTF

4. Functional Range
Supported functions:
 Distance Protection (21, 21N), Standard Scheme Basic + Z1X
 Non-Directional Definite Time Overcurrent Protection (50, 50N)
 Non-Directional Inverse Time Overcurrent Protection (51, 51N)
 Switch on to Fault (21SOTF)

Note: For Distance Protection, only the standard tripping scheme Basic + Z1X is supported

Note: For Switch on to Fault, only the mode SOTF Z2 enabled is supported (instantaneous tripping for
Zones Z1 and Z2)

Not supported functions:

 Communication tripping schemes for distance protection
 Power Swing
 Load Blinder
 Directional Time Overcurrent Protection
 Negative Sequence Overcurrent Protection
 Power Protection

 Broken Conductor Protection

 Aided Directional Earth Fault
 Thermal Overload
 Voltage Protection
 Undercurrent Protection
 Frequency Protection

Not supported parameters or parameter values:

 Setting Values = Primary

Although the functions listed above are not supported by the Protection Test Template, the
Relay Parameter Section of the XRIO Converter includes all protection parameters of the relay.

5. XRIO Converter
The Test Object already contains the Schneider MiCOM P442 XRIO Converter, which includes setting
parameters of the modelled protection relay. The setting parameters are built as an image of the
Easergy Studio V6.0.0 software and the following data models with software versions:
 P441: Software Version C7
 P442/P444: Software Version E0

The Standard Filter for XRIO Files can be used for importing settings into the Relay Parameter
Section.

Further information about the Additional Information block can be found in the OMICRON PTL user
manual.

6. Specific Protection Tests

In this chapter the specific protection tests, which are not covered by the OMICRON PTL User Manual,
are described.

6.1 Switch on to Fault

For testing Switch on to Fault (SOTF), the State Sequencer test module is used. The two possibilities to
activate the SOTF enable logic, All Pole Dead and Manual Close, can be tested separately. As
described in chapter 4, only the modes SOTF Z2 enabled (instantaneous tripping for Zones Z1 and Z2)
and SOTF All Zone (instantaneous tripping for all Zones) are supported.

6.1.1 All Pole Dead

The State Sequencer test module contains 7 states:
1. Dead Line 1: A dead line is simulated for a duration longer than the relay setting SOTF Delay
2. Line Energized 1: An energized line with rated voltage and rated current is simulated for a
duration longer than the SOTF enabled time (500ms)
3. Fault without SOTF: A three phase fault is simulated at the end of the line (94% line length)
4. Dead Line 2: A dead line is simulated for a duration longer than the relay setting SOTF Delay
5. Line Energized 2: An energized line with rated voltage and rated current is simulated within the
SOTF enabled time (500ms)
6. Fault with SOTF: A three phase fault is simulated at the end of the line (94% line length)
7. Postfault

6.1.2 All Pole Dead with CB 52a, 52b

This test considers the status of the circuit breaker auxiliary contacts 52a and 52b, which are simulated
via the binary outputs of the CMC. The structure of the State Sequencer test module is similar to the
previous chapter 6.1.1 .

6.1.3 Manual Close

The State Sequencer test module contains 9 states:
1. Dead Line 1: A dead line is simulated
2. Manual Close Command 1: This state is waiting for a manual close command, which has to be
connected to the binary input 4 of the CMC
3. Line Energized 1: An energized line with rated voltage and rated current is simulated for a
duration longer than the SOTF enabled time (500ms)
4. Fault without SOTF: A three phase fault is simulated at the end of the line (94% line length)
5. Dead Line 2: A dead line is simulated
6. Manual Close Command 2: This state is waiting for a manual close command, which has to be
connected to the binary input 4 of the CMC
7. Line Energized 2: An energized line with rated voltage and rated current is simulated for a
duration longer than the SOTF enabled time (500ms)
8. Fault with SOTF: A three phase fault is simulated at the end of the line (94% line length)
9. Postfault
