OMICRON PTL SIFANG CSC-103 V1.41 Line PTT User Manual

1. General
This user manual describes details of testing SIFANG CSC-103 relays with the OMICRON
Protection Test Template (PTT). General information on the usage of OMICRON
Protection Testing Library items can be found in the OMICRON PTL user manual.

The template has been tested with the following relay:

Manufacturer: SIFANG
Model: CSC-103-EB
Firmware Version: 1.41

1.1 Supported Relays

The following relays can be tested with the Protection Test Template:
• CSC-101
• CSC-103

2. Software and Hardware Requirements

To use this template, you must have a valid test license for the OMICRON Test Universe 4.10 software or
higher versions and the following test modules:
• Advanced Distance
• Annunciation Checker
• Control Center
• Diff Operating Characteristic
• Overcurrent
• Pulse Ramping
• Ramping
• State Sequencer
• QuickCMC

A CMC test set with three current outputs is required. For the differential end to end tests a CMGPS 588
is necessary for time synchronization.

3. Hardware
There are multiple possibilities of wiring a 7SL8x relay to a CMC test set. The advised connections are
shown in Figure 1. These connections are the default settings in the Hardware Configuration of the PTT.

5. XRIO Converter
The Test Object already contains the SIFANG CSC-103 XRIO Converter, which includes setting
parameters of the modelled protection relay. The setting parameters are built as an image of the AESP
Studio software.

The Filter for SIFANG AESP Studio.csv Settings can be used for importing settings out of the SIFANG
AESP Studio menus ProtSet and EquipParmSet into the Relay Parameter Section. The import is
possible from AESP Studio Version 1.2.7.

5.1 Diff Topology

The Diff Topology block contains the parameter Local device is device, like it is shown in Figure 2. You
have to determine which of the tested protection relays is Relay 1 and which Relay 2. If you choose value
“0” it means local device is Relay 1. For the opposite side relay the other value must be adjusted.

5.2 Additional Information

5.2.1 Opposite Side Relay Information

The Opposite Side Relay Information block includes the parameters for the primary and secondary
nominal current values of the instrument transformers from the protection relay on the opposite side of the
line. The parameters must be set on each side before testing.

Further information about the Additional Information block can be found in the OMICRON PTL User
Manual.

6. Specific Protection Tests

In this chapter the specific protection tests, which are not covered by the OMICRON PTT User Manual,
are described.

6.1 Line Differential Protection

6.1.1 Communication Check

An Annunciation Checker test module is used to guide the tester through the process of checking the Line
Differential protection communications. Please follow the instructions given by the Test Navigator. The
Annunciation Checker test has to be assessed manually.

6.1.2 Line Differential Pickup Test

The Line Differential pickup test has to be performed with active communication. Each relay (local and
remote) has to be tested independently. During the test of one relay it has to be ensured that the remote
end does not measure any current and voltage! The pulsed currents are ramped until the differential
protection picks up. The pickup value is assessed.

6.1.3 Line Differential Trip Time Test

The Line Differential Trip Time Test simulates a fault on the line protected with the Line Differential
protection. For this test the threshold current of the Idiff high setting group is used. During the test of one
relay it has to be ensured that the remote end does not measure any current and voltage! A relay trip is
expected. The trip time is assessed.

6.1.4 Line Differential External Fault

The State Sequencer test module is used to test the stability of the Line Differential function for through
fault conditions. The local and the remote relay are involved in this end to end type tests. To synchronize
the test signals of both ends, CMGPS 588 is required. The corresponding test modules for relay 1 and
relay 2 need to be opened and then run simultaneously on both sides.

A fault outside the protection area located at side 2 followed by a fault outside the protection area located
at side 1 is simulated. Both relays must not send a trip signal during the tests.

6.1.5 Line Differential Operating Characteristic

The Diff Operating Characteristic test module is used to test the operating characteristic of the Line
Differential function. The local and the remote relay are involved in this end to end type tests. To
synchronize the test signals of both ends, CMGPS 588 is required. The corresponding test modules for
relay 1 and relay 2 need to be opened and then run simultaneously on both sides.

Please check and adjust the test points to fit your application. Please make sure, that the same test points
are used in the corresponding test modules for both relays.

6.2 Switch onto Fault Protection

With the State Sequencer test module, the Pole Dead and Manual Close conditions for SOTF permission
are tested, as well as the special case of necessity for both criteria.

The Manual Close condition must be simulated. Therefore, the manual close contact has to be wired to
the corresponding binary input of the CMC. When the test is started the manual close has to be activated
within state 1 "Manual Close operation". As a result, state 1 passes over to state 2 which will end just as
you let go the Manual Close activation.

For testing, the Switch onto fault Distance Protection parameters are used.
