Outlining
 is a tool we use in the writing process to help organize our
ideas, visualize our paper's potential structure, and to further
flesh out and develop points.
 allows the writer to understand how he or she will connect the
information to support the thesis statement and the claims of the
paper.
 outlines give a visual structure to your work and are used to
show relationships and hierarchies within your content.
 Decimal outline - uses numbers as a label.
 Alpha numeric outline - uses both letters and numbers as labels.

After the teacher discussed the definition of outlining, the teacher will
proceed in discussing how to outline a linear and organized plan for a
paper.

II, A and B, 1 and 2).
 Put a period after each numeral and letter.
 Indent each new level of the outline.
 All items of one kind (roman numerals, capital letters, Arabic

merely organizational units in the writer’s mind.

 Lastly, the teacher will discuss the four principles that can be
followed to have an effective outline.
a. Principle of coordination requires ideas of the same
relevance to be labeled in the same way.
b. Principle of subordination shows that minor details have to
be placed under their respective major details
c. Principle of division requires that no cluster should contain
only one item. In short, if you have subheading 1, there
should be subheading 2
d. Principle of parallel construction requires all entries in each
cluster to use the same structure and format. For example, if
in your outline you started the entries in simple present
tense, the succeeding entries should also use the simple
present tense.

E. Generalization

After discussing outlining and the guidelines in writing an outline,

the teacher will now ask the students if they have any questions or
clarifications. The teacher will also do a short recap of the lesson by
asking the students questions related to the topic. (You may
include the process / guide questions here.)

F. Application

To make sure that the learners understood the discussion, the

teacher will conduct a short activity. The teacher will present an
essay about the “Importance of Education” and the students will
create an outline using topic outline.
