The Useful of Nuclear Energy

1. Energy

Benefits of Nuclear Technology in the energy sector. Nuclear Technology has long been used as
a power plant. Developed countries like Germany, China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Britain,
America, etc. have used nuclear power as a power plant. Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) is a
thermal power plant with heat obtained from one or even more than one nuclear reactor in a
power plant. The advantages of this nuclear power plant include not producing hazardous waste
such as carbon monoxide, mercury, nitrogen oxides, and other gases. In addition, nuclear power
is also able to last longer, produce more power than fuel and does not cause greenhouse gas
emissions. Nuclear technology is also used for nuclear powered submarines, nuclear powered
aircraft carriers, and so forth.

2. Industrial Sector

The benefits of nuclear technology are also used by humans in the industrial field. For example
with nuclear technology, humans can carry out the process of exploiting oil and gas, to determine
the nature of the rocks that are around such as lithography and porosity. Not only that, the ability
of nuclear energy radiation can also help design road construction, measure humidity and
density. Its use is like measuring the density of soil, asphalt, and concrete by using calcium-137
as its nuclear source.

3. Hydrology

In the field of hydrology, the use of nuclear is to test the speed of river or mud flow.
Radioisotopes can be used to measure water discharges, usually sodium-24 which is used in the
form of NaCl. The intensity of nuclear radiation can also be used as a leak detector in
underground pipes. Radioisotope Na-24 can emit gamma rays that can be detected directly by
using a Geiger Counter radioactive counter.

4. Health Sector

Applications in the medical field by using technology can generally be divided into two, namely
diagnosis and radiation therapy. X-rays for example are used for the treatment of patients
suffering from cancer. Of course this is the development of nuclear technology so far by
scientists. It is also possible to search for radioactive traces in the human body by using
Technetium provided by organic molecules, as well as various other applications.
The Advantages of Nuclear Energy Over Conventional Energy

1. Does not produce greenhouse gas emissions (during normal operation) - the greenhouse
gas is only emitted when the Emergency Diesel Generator is running and some produce
gas)
2. Does not pollute the air - does not produce harmful gases such as carbon monoxide,
sulfur dioxide, aerosols, mercury, nitrogen oxides, particulates or photochemical fumes
3. Does not produce much solid waste (during normal operation)
4. Low fuel costs - because only a little fuel is needed
5. Abundant fuel availability - because the fuel needed is small
6. Nuclear Batteries

The Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy Over Conventional Energy

1. Radiation
2. Need a big cost for the storage system
3. The waste substance contains radioactive substances
