Personal Statement

Good day, I am Afam-Okereke Kamsy Michael. I am a Secondary school graduate. Up until my 11th
grade, I had been choosing several career paths at different stages and ages of my life but the very
moment I channeled my aspirations to becoming a computer scientist it all clicked. Since the beginning
of my time, I have always seen myself as a problem solver but when it came to technological issues it
really felt like I was made for it. I started from fixing different appliances in my home, from televisions to
mobile phones and to laptops. As time went on, my love and passion for technology kept growing, so in
2018 I created my own YouTube channel (formerly named Kamsy’s tech and now Kamsy Afam) where I
created tutorial solution videos to different technical and software related problems on android devices.
Not only was I great at solving technological problems, I also represented my school in several Computer
studies workshops and academically I was always on top in this field.

I chose to study in the University of Derby UK because I desire to acquire an

outstanding tertiary education which I know this stupendous institution would provide. The United
Kingdom is one of the great nations today that has successfully applied technology into their educational
system, making it highly advanced and efficient for students to learn. Also, Computer Science is one of
the delicate courses that needs to be acquired in an institution with recent technology and updates. The
last but definitely not the least reason I chose University of Derby UK is because with the research I did,
The United Kingdom is one of the few countries that welcome international students with great
hospitality and honestly Studying in the University of Derby UK will be a great opportunity for me to get
a sound tertiary education while experiencing living abroad.

I aspire to be a notable computer scientist one day and with all the knowledge and
advanced education I will hopefully obtain from University of Derby UK, I am quite certain that I will be a
big step closer to my dreams. In the nearest future I hope to initiate a long-lasting peaceful bond
between Nigeria and UK. It is not a new story to the world that my country is really behind in terms of
recent technology but I plan to change that by influencing my country into the technology world and
enhancing our economy through it so I, my fellow citizens and the future generation can experience the
great Nigeria we hear in stories once again but with updated facilities. I aim to have my own tech
company where a brand-new operating system will be created and later advance to making devices that
will be sold worldwide and I know this would help improve the economy and reputation of both my
country and the United Kingdom. I am indeed very positive that Studying in the University of Derby UK
will be a major milestone to all my dreams and aspirations. I look forward to a positive reply.
