A DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Grade 4 Science
June 13, 2021

I. INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the learning session, students will be able to:
1. observe the two sides of magnet – North and South poles;
2. describe the force exerted by a magnet;
3. identify the objects attracted by a magnet; and
4. draw the objects attracted by a magnet.

Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of relationship between magnetic
and non-magnetic field through objects.

Performance Standards
The learners should be able to conduct activities by using different types
of magnets.

II. CONTENT
Topic: The Magnet

Preparatory Activities
A. Recall (5 minutes)
Last meeting, we talked about the safety
measures in physical activities at home or
at school. Again, what are those safety
measures in physical activities? Can
anyone give me at least one of safety
measures at home? The safety measures at home are not
climbing cabinets or stepping on the
chairs and tables.

What about in your school? Avoid running when going out of the
room.
Why do we need to know the safety
measures in physical activities at home
nor at school?
We need to know the safety measures in
physical activities at home or at school to

of applause.
B. Motivation (5 minutes)
Before we start our discussion, we will
first play a game called “4 pics one word”.

All you have to do is guess the word that

is related to the pictures and I will give (students will comply)
you just 3 minute to answer.
Yes ma’am.
Okay class the game is starting now.

Answer : Magnet Answer : Metal

Answer : Force
Times up class!

In this game, what words did you find in

the pictures? Magnet, Metal and Force.

Good job! All your answer is correct!
Developmental Activities
C. Presentation of the Lesson (8 minutes)
Who among you here had seen a magnet
or played a toy that is attracted to (students raised their hand)
magnet?

That’s nice!

(Showing a picture)
Are you familiar with this thing? Yes Ma’am.
What do you see in the picture? A magnet.
Very good!

This is a horseshoe magnet.

A magnet has an invincible field which

usually attracts objects that are mostly made
of iron, nickel, and cobalt or the so called –
metals.

KINDS OF MAGNET

BAR RING CYLINDRICAL

MAGNET MAGNET MAGNET

Other kinds of magnets are Bar magnet,

Ring magnet and Cylindrical magnet.

The magnet has two ends that never meet.

These are the North and South. A magnet
has always a North and South pole.

If the two magnets put near to each other and

they pull each other, the poles are different,
so they attract each other, meaning one pole
is North and the other pole is South. But, if
the poles are the same, definitely they will
push each other apart or they will repel,
meaning the poles are either both North
poles or both South poles.

The exerted force is a push and pull. As to
magnets, it is called Magnetism.
To let you understand more about
magnets, let us have a group activity. Are Yes Ma’am!
you ready students?
D. Discussion (20 minutes)
1. Pre-Activity
Today we will be having group activity. In
this activity the class will be divided into
two groups and will be answering each
task that given. Each group will be given
5 minutes to do the task. Do you
understand class? Yes Ma’am.

Okay class the first group will be seated

on the left side of the room and the
second group will be seated on the right
side of the room.
Group 1: Draw arrows inside the box to show whether
the magnets will push ( ) or pull ( )
each other.

has ended. The
representative of each
group can now post their
works on the board and
each representative will be given 3
minutes to discuss their works. Starting
from the first group and to the second
group.

3. Post-Activity
Class your time is up. Your 7 minutes
have already ended. You can go now

Very good class! Give yourself five claps.
You understand very well regarding
magnets especially, objects attracted to a
magnet and not attracted to a magnet.
Culminating Activities
E. Valuing (5 minutes)
In our discussion regarding magnets. (students answer may vary)
What force that exerted to a magnet? The force that exerted to a magnet is a
push and pull. If the poles are opposite
the object attract/pull each other. But
when the poles are the same definitely
they will push each other or they will

placed near the magnet? What is made of
an object that attracted to a magnet? Do
the same for the object that not attracted
to the magnet?
When the materials were placed near the
magnet, some of the material was
attracted to a magnet and other are not.
An object that is attracted to the magnet
is made of metals such as iron, nickel,
and cobalt, or steel. While objects that
are not attracted to the magnet are made
Good job class! All your answer is of plastic, cloth, rubber, paper, and
correct. copper.
F. Application (5 minutes)
Okay, class, in reality, magnets can be
found everywhere, they can be used in
many ways.

What magnetic materials can be found in

your home? Scissors, screw, paper clips and
appliances like refrigerator, television or
gadgets like tablet and cellphone

What about of non magnetic materials? Wood, plastic, rubber and clothes.
G. Generalization (5 minutes)
Before we go on to the assessment, let's
first recall regarding our discussion. Do
you understand class? Yes Ma’am.
