DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE IV

I. Objectives
1. Identify objects attracted by a magnet.
2. Draw objects attracted by a magnet.
3. Show cooperation in doing group activity.
A. Content Standard – The Learners demonstrate understanding of force
that can change the shape, size or movement of objects.
B. Performance Standard–The Learners should be able to perform safety
measures in doing physical activities.
C. Learning Competency – The Learners should be able to describe the
force exerted by magnets.

II. Content
A. Topic: The Magnet
B. Concepts: attract, poles, magnet, force
C. Science Process Skills: inferring, observing, communicating
D. Value Focus: Cooperation

III. Learning Resources

2. Discussion and Analysis

Background Information

 Magnets have invisible magnetic field

which attracts objects made of iron and
nickel.
 One end of a bar magnet is the north
pole and the opposite is the south pole.
 Magnets are attracted to three types of
metals. These metals are made of
nickel, iron and cobalt.
 These are several types of magnets like
ring magnets. Rectangular magnets,
and bar magnets.

Rectangular Magnet

Bar Magnet

Horseshoe Magnet

D. Elaboration

1. Application/ Valuing
Perform an activity entitled “Attract Me”

(Selected pupils will answer)

Ask: When handling sharp objects like

needles and nails in your group activity, Be careful.
what should you do? Practice safety measures and do not play
with the sharp objects.
2. Generalization

What are examples of materials that are Paper clip, thumbtacks, metal spoon, etc.
attracted to magnets? Why do they attract Because they are made of metals like iron,
to magnets? cobalt and nickel

E. Evaluation
Direction: Draw a horseshoe magnet ___
if the given material will attract to magnets
and put an X mark if it will not.
______ 1. CRAYONS
______ 2. ONE PESO COIN
______ 3. PENCIL ERASER
______ 4. STAPLE WIRES
______ 5. NAILS

V. Assignment

In your Science notebook, draw 5 objects that are attracted to magnets which
can be found in your home or community.
