Have you seen a magnet? What can you say about it?
Magnets have invisible magnetic field which attracts objects made of iron
and nickel. One end of a bar magnet is the north pole and the opposite is the
south pole. They are attracted to the three types of metals. These metals are
made of nickel, iron and cobalt. There are several types of magnets like ring
magnets, rectangular magnets and bar magnets.

B. Development minutes The activity that you are going to perform will help you identify which
Pagpapaunlad among the given materials are attracted to magnets.
Learning Task 1. Prepare the materials listed below. You may ask the help of
your parents/guardians or any adult members of the family if needed.
Procedures:
(Note: Handle the materials with care especially the sharp objects)
Questions:
1. What happened when the materials were placed near the magnet?
2. Inspect the objects that were attracted by the magnet. What are they
made of? Describe what happens.
C. Engagement 100 minutes Now that you are familiar with the objects attracted to magnets, in the
Pakikipagpalihan succeeding activity you will clearly characterize and describe the force
exerted by the magnet.
Learning Task 2. Prepare the materials listed below. You may ask the help of
your parents/guardians of any adult members of the family if needed.
Procedure:
1. Place two bar magnets on the table.
2. Have the north pole of a bar magnet face the north pole of
another bar magnets. Place them at least 5 cm away from
each other. Observe what happens.
3. Have the south pole of a bar magnet face the south pole of
another bar magnets. Place them at least 5 cm away from
each other. Observe what happens.
4. This time have the north pole of a bar magnet face the south
pole of another bar magnet. Place them at least 5cm away from
each other. Observe what happens.
5. Try to move the north pole of a bar magnet towards the south pole
of another. Observe what happens.
6. Illustrate your observations for procedure 2, 3 and 4.

IV. LEARNING PHASES Learning Activities
Timeframe
Questions:
1. What happened when the magnets with the same poles face each
other?
2. What happens when the magnets with opposite poles face each
other?
3. What general statement can you formulate?
Learning Task 3.
Complete the paragraph below to describe the kind of force exerted
by a magnet. Choose from the box.
When the __________ of the two magnets are put near each other, they
have a force that will either pull them together or push them apart. If the poles
are _____________ , then they will pull together, or attract each other. If the
poles are the ___________ , then they will push apart, or __________ each other.
The push and pull of a magnet is called magnetism. Magnets showing the
north and south poles attracting ____________ objects.
VI. REFLECTION 100 minutes Choose one symbol which best describes your experience while doing the
learning tasks. Then, draw it inside the box found below.
I was able to do/perform the tasks without any difficulty. The tasks
helped me in understanding the lesson.
I was able to do/perform the tasks. It was quite challenging, but it still
helped me understand the lesson.
I was able to do/perform the task. It was extremely difficult. I need
additional enrichment activities.
