The Covid-19 pandemic has harmed all forms of education. Higher education has been
affected the most because various countries were forced to shut down their campuses leaving the
students with no other option other than taking the classes online without any in-person or
practical demonstrations that were necessary for fields like Medicine and Engineering. This
caused disruptions in the lives of the students as they were forced to switch online completely.
Staying at home or hostel while studying was a new way of life that the students had to adapt
making it difficult to stay organized and keep up with the classes and assignments.
Recently, some higher education institutes in the US have announced that they will be
opening the campuses shortly. This move has been welcomed wholeheartedly by the students but
the pandemic has shaken the economic landscape as a whole. The students who were supposed to
graduate during the time of the pandemic will face hardship in finding jobs related to their fields
on Merit. This is the reason why higher education students have increased stress levels. The
competition they face is now much higher than in the non-pandemic times.
The international students were also severely affected as their legal status was revised
after the policies of the host countries were changed. This forced the Universities around the
world to digitize and transform their working environments to engage in remote learning so that
international students could gain access to lectures and educational materials online. The
problem with remote learning is that it cannot be used to teach courses that require a hands-on
approach or practical experience like using machinery for engineering classes or interacting with
Possible Rebuttal:
Some people do argue that remote learning has more advantages than disadvantages. This
is true for students belonging to junior level or high school. The University students who were
undergoing professional education could not switch entirely to remote learning. The only way
forward for them is to wait for the pandemic situation to end and come back when classes
resume.
Conclusion:
It can be inferred that the students seeking professional education have been most badly
affected by the pandemic primarily because distant learning cannot help them comprehensively.
Due to lack of physical interaction with the learning apparatus and inability to participate in
practical experiments, there is little for them to learn in the online classes. The sudden arrival of
the pandemic has delayed the learning process of millions of higher education students around
the world. Universities around the world have announced reopening. Higher education students
will need to be patient and get all the support that they can from their families and each other to
cope with the stress induced by the economic downturn brought by the pandemic
