Representative Artists and their Distinctive Characteristics
of Media-based Arts and Design in the Philippines

I. Learning Competency with Code

Identifies representative artists as well as distinct characteristics of
media-based arts and design in the Philippines. A10EL-IIIa-2

II. Background Information for Learners

The media-based art and design trends are photography, film, print
media, digital media, and product and industrial design (also called applied
arts).

The rapid development of technology worldwide has brought the

Philippines to innovative art forms and progress from the traditional art of
painting, sculpture, and architecture. The development of technology helped
Filipino artists not only in providing more options for creative expression but
livelihood as well. Filipino artists are now able to contribute more to the
economy of the Philippines.

The modern techniques and trends in photography, film, print media,

digital media, and product and industrial design will be explored. Most
notably the talent, creativity, and quality workmanship of Filipino artists and
designers in all these fields will be recognized and celebrated. Not only have
these brought Philippine artistry to the world’s attention, but they have
opened up an entire range of opportunities for young Filipinos to develop and
apply these talents—and earn a living while doing so.
